3 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

:thumbup:Hi All:

Was banded on 11-19-08. On puree now but am trying to get liquids down. I don't think I have been getting enough Protein because I feel really tired. Going to drink the Protein drinks at least twice a day. I realized today it has only been 3 weeks since the banding and that the doctor did say six weeks for healing. Everyone is different. Even with it being laproscopic surgery we have to remember it was still surgery. I think I should be up and running a mile lolololol. I never ran a mile in my life but I hope to walk a mile or two. I am so glad I had this done. I think all of us will be glad. I appreciate all the advise that I read about from all those who have gone before me and had this done. I have lost 28 pounds since I started on the pre-op and after surgery. Good luck to all. I get my first fill on Dec 23-08. Let me know if anyone else still feels tired and sore.

Hi, I was also banded on 11/19/08. But I have been on solids for a week now. I also am getting my first fill on the 12/22, pretty close to yours. I am sorry your so tired. I am not tired or sore. Have you been getting a lot of walking in? I started walking the day of surgery and it helped me heal quickly. So far I have some restriction. Can eat anything but not as much as I ever did before. Maybe up your Protein to see if that helps.

I was banded a few weeks before you, but I remember being very tired well into my third week. I'm not a nap person at all, but after surgery I couldn't seem to sit down without falling asleep! Sometimes I'd wake up 20 minutes later, sometimes 45 minutes. It was very odd...completely out of my control. I decided those little cat naps were when my body was doing some major healing and didn't want to be interrupted by my activity! By the one month mark, I was back to my normal non-napping self.

Good Luck!

I was banded the same day as you and I'm still getting tired out easily. I'm on mushies and can start solids in a couple weeks. I have my first fill on the 18th.

I also had my gallbladder out and a hiatal hernia fixed, so I figured I migh have a bit more healing to do than the average band patient.

I haven't been getting much exercise, but I can't honestly imagine how I'm supposed to function with this low energy thing. I still have a Protein shake in the morning and then eat high Protein for my meals.

Once that overwhelming feeling of having done a million stomach crunches subsides, your healing is well underway.

It may sound strange, but the more active you get, the more alert and energenic you'll become. Start slow and do what you can but you have to keep moving.

Brad

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
