Hello All---I am Colleen from NY. I was banded on 4/5/2007. I was 239.5 now around 179.

I have a question about "sludge" and how it is so freaking annoying. I can take a sip of liquid and feel my "sludge" build up and eventually build up so much that I have to get rid of it. However, I can eat garlic knots or something similar and they go through with no feeling of building up.

Any thoughts?

WOW! I WISH I could eat garlic knots and not feel terrible! LOL...I do know what you mean though about the "sludge"! A friend of mine on here suggested to me to drink a cup of hot Water with lemon before eating and that breaks the "sludge" up. I seem to have a problem if I drink anything too soon after eating. Even just a little bit of a drink and I have to get it all up. Sometimes I even drink purposely so that I can get it all up if I've got food stuck. :0(

Thank you for your reply. It's horrible that sludge and sometimes I can't take it. I know that I probably get it when I eat things I shouldn't.

When were you banded? Do you love it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
