I am also 2 days post op and did not have any problems until last night. I started to have heart burn and occasionally tightness/sharp pain in my chest area. It felt like a gas bubble trapped. I have been eating gas x and tums and still have not been able to get any relief. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I just didn't know if this is something that I should report to Dr. Spivak or just hang in there and hopefully it will subside.

Thanks,

Pam

Well, I'm 10 days post op now....I also had gas pains, sometimes worse at times than others. The heating pad helped, GasX helped, and walking around helped. The biggest helper is simply time.....it has to work itself out......I was out today and had a bubble like feeling in my chest...more rare now, but still gets ya!

It won't last forever...I noticed a nice change in the amount of gas by the end of day5.....

Hoo boy, that gas does last for a LONG time. You are doing all the right things....walk walk walk, GasX....just hang in there...it will pass (pun TOTALLY intended).

Hang in there newbies! It gets better! Sip, walk, heating pad, Gas-X, Tums, and TIME! Take it easy, don't push it with the eating, careful with your band, wait it out.

I wish I had realized just how small a small sip would be. I used to sip, then swallow that small sip in 2-3 swallows. THAT'S how little it went down at a time. Drip the fluids down. Watch out for high-acid fluids, especailly if you get the least bit of heartburn. Stick with broths and water/gatorade/Propel and stay away from fruit juices and Tomato juices and Soups. It slowly gets better! You will be able to drink those things in time.

Thanks everyone for responding. I didn't know whether to panic or not. I really appreciate all the feed back. It gives me reassurance that everything is ok and soon the bad gas pains & heartburn will pass. This is not very fun! HAHA. Yesterday was my first day home after surgery and I cooked some fish and fries for my kids. Without even thinking, I grabbed a fry to see if it was done. When I realized what I did, I was like a cat spitting out a hairball! It's those bad habbits I really have to watch out for too. The only thing I have had besides Water, is broth and strained Soup. My hunger pains are decreased, but they are still there. Thanks again everyone!!!!

I am 12 days post op and felt the way that you did. It does pass, quite literally, I found that walking and just moving around helped. I also found that once I could drink warm liquids they seemd to help.

Thanks for starting this thread, because if you didn't I would have! I am 2 days post-op and the only real pain I have is from gas! Well, at least I knew what to expect,f rom reading here, but I didn't really think it owuld be as painful as it is! I am following all of your advice, too...walking, Gaviscon, heating pad, repeat...just waiting it out. The port incision/location is the most sore, but that makes sense. Thanks to everyone; your answerw are reassuring! Cindy

I worry about getting enough nutrients so I have been trying to drink a Boost in the morning...the second day after surgery I was really weak from lack of nourishment....I guess it may be to soon for a Protein Drink? ??? Also, I started putting "Beano" in the broth or strained Soup last night....not sure yet if it helps. icon9.gif

I had my band placed in January & the gas was HORRIBLE!!!! Nothing worked until I discovered glycerine suppositories. They work surprisingly well!! I'm a med-surg nurse & I remembered one of the surgeons giving me an order for the suppositories for someone that had post-op gas pains. I thought he was crazy! I guess when you are desperate you will try anything! I promise they work. LOL! Good luck & hang in there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
