Standardized Patients Needed

University of California San Francisco (UCSF)

The UCSF School of Medicine is seeking male and female actors, all ages and ethnicities to participate in various role-play situations throughout the year. Participants will be paid for training and performance - $22/hr. This is an ongoing program and work days range from 3-5 hours.

What is a standardized patient?

Standardized Patients are healthy people who are trained to play the role of a patient suffering from a specific medical condition. Medical students interview and perform basic physical exam maneuvers (taking blood pressure, measuring pulse rate, listening to heart and lungs, etc.) on Standardized Patients during examinations to demonstrate a student’s mastery of basic clinical and interview skills. Students are graded on both their medical knowledge (Are they asking the right questions to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis?) and their bedside manner (Can they treat patients with sensitivity and respect?)

If interested, and would like to be in our pool of actors please email your headshot, resume and age to me:

I hadn't planned anything for my bandaversay, but I will think of something.

I had a Protein burger at In and Out while I was on the pre op 1200 cal diet - it was basically a meat patty with ketchup and pickle wrapped in lettuce.

I just talked to Richmond and the first fill appt with Dr. Im/Robin was Sept 9 at 10:30 with Robin and 11 am with Dr. Im. I just sent him an e-mail to see if he can squeeze me in on the 3rd or the 4th. I told him if I had known I would need to call and make my own appt, I would have done it much sooner. We'll see what he says.

this has got to be the most commute friendly place there is. We have vanpools that come form all over. My ex boss (yea!!!) in on a van comming from concord.

I advertise everywhere. We do 1099's so it doesn't effect unemployment.

Nicole (and other girls with fills tomorrow!) REMEMBER:

You can eat Breakfast as long as it's 6 hours before your appt. I always feel so yuck not eating for 24+ hours, but this time I'm excited about it being a mid day appt because I'm gonna eat a light breakfast at 7:30, allowing 6 hours til the appt time with Robin, plus usually another hour or more til we get in for the actual fill.

I'm thinking I'll feel much better having one meal tomorrow rather than nothing but Water.< /p>

Hi All,

Donna you are my #1 Support person - so come on down! However, looking in the mirror is a no-no still - I actually teared up just looking at the pics of myself from Reggies house - I hate that feeling!

Nicole - I cry over animals ALL THE TIME. I saw a dead dog on the side of the road the other day and cried all the way home (20 min) My first thought was that the jerk that hit him didn't even stop to help so that poor doggie suffered till he died! I hate people! I think I need to join PITA. Also, I cry on that Sarah McGloclin (sp) commercial every time and when they were advertising for propostion 3 I think it was with the animals - oh boy don't get me started! They are defenseless and I feel it is our job to help and protect them GRRRRRRR!

Tamra - the burger is fine - just no ketchup full of cals & suger - they probably dont put it on there anyway but just be sure. Breakfast is a hard one for me too! I love eggs but get tired of them after a while. I have these "oopsie rolls" that I make and pop them in the toaster sometimes in the am and that's good. Only 1 carb ea. I'll get you the recipe or send you the link.

Pammie (my aunt has a friend name Pam but I've never met her - anyway when she talks about her she calls her "Pammie" so that is what has stuck with me - let me know if it bothers you) 1 year bandiversary - holy cow! and you've lost alot of weight! I say new red bra & panties to go with that dress!

Speaking of new bra - Reggie, got my new bra on - never thought I could do one with no underwire but it's working pretty good - lovin it so I gotta get in touch with your sister for some more!

Jes - do you have to be 18? My niece would love to do it but she's only 15 1/2.

Maybe you can set your alarm for 7-7:30, get up and have an egg with some cheese on it and then go back to bed?

I do notice that sometimes, especially when I have a big workout in the morning.

Nicole - that happens to me all the time that's why I hate eating breakfast! Liz said it's because you are jump starting your metabolism.

Chris - good to know but you'll have to remind me of that when my time comes for fills - LOL

Ok, so my boss just said to me that he's just sick of himself and wants to join a mens group - I told him that's TMI for me and that is something he needs to discuss with his wife. Crazy man!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
