Hi daqui -

We're getting banded the same day. I go to my pre-op class on the 8th and am really anxious to get more details about pre-op diet and stuff. My diet now is a shake for one meal (usually have it for breakfast) and sensible lunch and dinner. It's more about HOW I eat right now - Protein first, then veggies, then carbs and not drinking while I eat. For the first time in my life, I'm actually looking forward to Summer.....

Hello all!

I am getting banded on the 29th of Jan and I can't wait!!!

I am being banded in Brisbane by Dr Blair Bowden. I have all my pre op appointments on the 16th (dietician, psyc, bloods etc).

I have to start my Optifast diet on the 15th. I'm really looking forward to that :eek::thumbup::eek: NOT! As of today I am also giving up my beloved wine! I want my liver to be nice and small for the op!

In a few short hours it will be January....."January Hotties" THIS IS OUR MONTH !!!! I'll be starting a 2 week modified diet tomorrow, full Protein Shakes mid-month, and surgery scheduled for Jan 30th.

Hey! We're getting banded the same day! I can't wait. I only have 1 day of pre-op dieting & it's just all liquids. So I feel for everyone that has to do more. Hang in there and the days will go by faster than you know it! Anyone else getting banded Jan 30th or even anyone getting it done in Worcester, Ma? Good luck to everyone! Every day that you wake up, you're one day closer to the new you! Woohoo!

Happy New Year!!!!

Hi to all the New Years Hotties!! I am getting banded on January 23rd by Dr. K in Denver Colorado. I will be starting my pre-op diet on the 13th and will have my pre-op appt on the 22nd. I live a couple hours outside of Denver so they have done everything very quickly for me. I had my consult on Dec. 23rd and they scheduled my surgery the first day. I am so excited but so nervous at the same time.

Hi there everyone, Happy New Year! This is going to be our year! My surgery is on the 6th. Anyone else getting it done on that same date? I am just stoked! I am so glad it's in January so I can make some resolutions and actually stick to them for once. I have had no pre-op diet to do and am in a "last supper" faze right now. I am actually looking forward to not being able to eat after the surgery so I can start loosing. I guess different doctors do different pre-op processes. I just must be one of the lucky few. Well I am glad I found this group of ladies that I can journey with.

Stephanie, are you as excited as I am??? I am just busting! I should have done this years ago. It will be great to have others recovering and going through the same thing at the same time. I weigh 250 for the third time. Each time I lost 60-90 lbs, then within two years it was back on.

This time everything will be different by next year I will have had 3 fills or so and will continue to loose! I am soooo excited for this coming summer and then next Christmas! I will be at or near my goal weight! What a great Christmas present I am giving myself.

I'm glad you are there too.

I'm having trouble getting excited. I've been trying to get this surgery for over 2 years and things just keep going wrong for me. I had to have 2 other surgeries for a different problem before they would even touch me for lapband. I don't think I'll be excited until they tell me it's been put in and I can leave the hospital. I'm a total pessimist. lol

Glenda, I too am having my surgery on th 6th and am currently in the "last supper" phase myself. I went for my pre-admis. testing today and they didn't even weigh me. They just asked for my weight. I was kind of dissappointed bc I have been bad one day and then starving the next day to make sure that I didn't gain any weight these past few days.

I too have no pre-op diet except on the 5th I can only have Clear Liquids. I told the nurse that I was scared of eating anything now bc I had heard that the Dr. will not do the surgery if you gain any weight and she told me to just enjoy the next few days and relax. I am still not going to go crazy bc that just means I have more to lose, but I am not going to starve myself either. I have a party tomorrow to go to and so I told my husband that I am going to enjoy myself but skip desert.

chrissy, glensand & angel - not long to go now. Only a couple of days. It will be here before you know it.

I can't wait to hear how you went and start hearing about those pounds coming off!

Take care and good luck,

Hi Sar2748, Great that we are getting banded on the same day ! We are only 4 weeks away !!! Felt like January would never come, now our day will be here before we know it. Dr's submitted the paperwork for the final insurance approval last week, and they expect a response next week. (keeping my fingers crossed). I have 2 weeks on unjury Protein shakes before the surgery. I've tried several of the flavors, and they taste pretty good, but have a mild smell that I find hard to get past...but I could tolerate for 2 weeks. I am going to ask the Dr next week if he has other suggestions to try. My surgery will be done near Philadelphia, PA. Good luck, keep in touch. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
