Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off

Something nice my daughter tells me "Mommy, I love you best. Daddy is too hard but you're nice and soft."

It makes me want to say nice and soft.

I love that!

You haven't lived until you've overheard your child tell his friends that "My Dad had to have surgery because he's an O'Beast". What a kick in the access port that one was!

My 8 year old daughter says to me "Mommy can I play with your bread", now my bread is my bat wings....I just have to laugh at that, and I felt it and it does feel like bread dough..LOL

My favorite is when a woman tells me how lucky I am to be a man since men can carry their weight so much easier than women can. Man or woman ... it still sucks!

Once when I lost almost 50lbs on a diet and my aunts came to visit....my mom actually bragged on me. (It was rare) She said, can you believe it, Melissa is lost almost 50lbs. My aunt who isn't a skinny ninny said, "looks like she needs to loose about 50lb more" It was almost true, but it was rather harsh at the time.

My 5 year old she tells me I'm not fat, I so want to loose the weight before she realizes I am. LOL Which since she starts kindergarten this year, won't be long.

Melissa

That is true, kids don't know the difference (most of the time anyway) until they see something different.

Don't you all hate it when thinner people think that you don't deserve to have a bf, mate, husband or whatever because you are big?? That is one of the reasons I broke up with my bf, I have gotten so freaked out by all these people telling me that they don't understand why my bf was dating me, that I just didnt seem like his type, and honestly I think they may be right.

BIG GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO lol!!!!!!

Oh, wow Charles, I never thought about that until I had a guy in my theatre class this past year that was as self-conscious about his weight as I was about mine. I guess the reason women think that is because it is more socially acceptable for a man to be big than a woman, just not by much. It still can make me so mad that I can go into a store and not be able to find anything bigger than my pinkie, and look over and find out they carry a much larger (literally) variety of men's clothing (stores like American Eagle and Aeropostale)

I was thin and sporty in high school and a guy that had a crush on me in HS told my friend that he was glad he didnt get me in HS after all as I was HUGE now and he'd have to divorce me.Im serious this is horrible and still makes me cringe. The only reason my friend even told me he said it was because another girl from HS had asked why I never went to any of the reunions(my cheesy HS does them every 5 yrs!!!)and that she had heard that it was cause I was so heavy and that she was going to start a petition to do a "wheres tina" in the newsletter and say something about "loving me no matter my size"!!!!!!Thank god my friend squelched that shit!!!!Id have died!!!Anyway my 20 yr reunion is next June and Im gonna go to that and hopefully be back down to at least close to my HS size of 7.

My whole life i have recieved back handed compliments about my looks and weight. The one i hear the most is you have such a pretty face. I was shopping in a local grocery store a few years ago when an older woman came up to me and loudly procailmed " you would be so beautiful if you would just lose some weight." Not to be left in the cold alone I retorted "thank you and you would be seen as kind if you were to keep your lips together."

my mother wanted me to try to be a model when i was younger in hopes that it would inspire me to lose weight...well I met a few people who told me if i wanted to be a plus size model i would have to lose weight...HELLO....I only weighed 185 at the time...thanks a lot

I have noticed that since i have been running around town getting my pre op requirements met that there have been several well meaning health care workers who have said "nice" things to me.. the girl who drew my blood said "wow that is great. I bet you will be happy to not be so fat" LOL

then the lady who did my EKG said "you will be so much healthier with this surgery. make sure you don't mes it up by eating lots of chips and cookies." what? did you see the extra large bag of doritos and the chips ahoy sticking out of my purse? damn, i meant to hide them better..omg lady you dont know me or what made me overweight in the first place..

the final straw was the X ray tech who said " well at least after your surgery you will be able to fit into better clothes." I am sorry i didnt realize that my wearing YOUR exam gown qualified me for a belittleing by the fashion police.

ive always hated going to the doctors, especially when you are put into your exam room and the nurse gets a gown for you...i always hate it when they grab a gown, then size you up, put that gown back and grab a bigger one or even 2 small ones...one for the front and one for the back!!!! i should just bring my own gown next time and give her the look as i pull it out of my purse!!!!! hahahaha :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
