Post op diet phases

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was banded 11/25 and feel like I am starving myself. I am suppose to be on Clear Liquids until a week from tomorrow, but right now I am so depressed. I do not know how you can live on so little food.

Melly,

I am day 6 post op banded 11/21/08 and I am miserable on a liquid diet. I am very weak too because I am not getting enough calories. I had my surgery done in Mexico, so I don't have a nutritionist but I would love to know what he says. I have been tempted to move on to very runny mashed potatoes etc but I am a little scared to do it.

I can't lose weight like this either although I have dropped 13 pounds in 6 days. It is just that I fell miserable. I am committed to doing this but I cant starve myself. How the heck do you know if your healed or not?

Please keep in touch and let me know.

I was banded on 11/03/08..............so far so good ......mine was two weeks preop liquid (which was worse than now) and one week liquid; i have been eating pretty good the last week only three weeks post op. Have had no problems whatsoever - most pain was in the area where the port was placed and that pain eased every day after surgery more and more. Went back to work the next Monday. So far (counting 8 pre surgery) I have lost 20 big ones. Have not done very well on the exercise and need to start like tomorrow. Was very happy with the surgeon - I am from Ft Worth, Texas and my surgeon was Dr David Kim at North Hills Hospital in N Richland Hills. Looking forward to chatting with you all .

Banded 11/03/08

Preop Weight 218 (serious comorbidities)

Goal is to be healthy and comfortable if this takes me even:thumbup: close to 155.

I was banded on 11/18/08. My surgeon and nutritionists lap-band related diet is:

pre-op 12 days of 1200 calories in any form.

pre-op 2 days of full liquid (includes yogurt, Protein drinks).

surgery day 1 day of clear liquids (water, popcycle).

post-op 7 days of full liquid.

post-op 14 days of pureed (ie: mushies).

then on to regular food (healthy and low cal).

I lost 10 lbs pre-op.

Weight went up on surgery day and few days after.

then have and have lost 5 more lbs post-op.

Total of 15 lbs lost in November.

9 days post op and am not at all hungry. I do eat at mealtimes - but very little (ie: 2-4 oz) and am full.

I was starving at week 2 and could no longer do the liquid diets, and I talked to my doctor, he told me to go ahead and eat, just take it easy and try to stick to the softer foods. So, I eat Soup, and basically at this point until I get my first fill 12/11, I follow the weight watchers diet for the food, but I still follow the directions of no liquids with meals. I lost 12 lbs so far and feel great! Everyone should talk their own doctor and tell them they are hungry. It will get better, hang in there.

I was on liquids and soft foods (jell-o, yogurt, pudding, creamed Soups and broths) for 2 weeks post-op. Then, my nutritionist moved me to all Protein all the time for 6 weeks. I can have one Protein shake for any meal and then I can have cheese, eggs, fish, shrimp, chicken, ground turkey, etc. for the other 2 meals. No fruit, veggies, starches, etc. until I meet with her again in January.

I never realized how much I miss vegetables until I couldn't eat them for 8 weeks.

I know it is a struggle but the doctors have your best interest at heart. I just found out that my surgeon is going on medical leave for several months so I will be following up with a doctor I don't know. I am pretty nervous about that too but I guess he is just as knowledgeable as my surgeon.

Hang in there.. you will be eating regular food before you know it.. just a lot smaller portions. :cursing:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
