Openly Disgusting - Why Lose Weight?

Recommended Posts

OK... Let's get down and dirty here.

Even in this forum, I noticed people pussy-footing around the issue of weightloss and being fat.

So let's hear the real down and dirty stories as to why you are losing weight, what you WON'T miss about being fat, and what will keep you from going back.

(note that there are plenty of threads that can talk about "I did it to save my life..." I want to have some fun and hit more honesty.)

I will give three things to kick us off.

One: I don't like people looking nervous when I get into an elevator. (OK... that was more of a joke to warm things up.)

Two: Actually being able to wipe myself - a digusting but true thing that some of you not so extremely fat folk may not relate to, but I am sure that I am not the first person to find a shower massage to be a hygene tool. - Never want to get back to that point again!

Three: Making love to my wife, and actually making it work! This week was the first time in 3 years that we made love (lots of pleasuring each other, mind you... and yes, ladies, I have a trick that can bring her to that pleasure point... ) But this is the first time since before we got married that "Little Boy" actually visited "Little Girl." Life just gets better.

OK>>> There's the honestly... Now let's here your unspoken stories as to what will make living thinner better:thumbup:

I second your list and add...

Strangers (guys) noticing me when I am out-and-about... Its been a few years since I've enjoyed that! And more importantly being noticed more by DH!

Getting dressed is easier. Pre-band it was difficult not only to have clothes fit and look halfway decent but it was also difficult to get into some of those outfits. Bras, pantyhose and shoes with laces were especially difficult.

Less sweating...the sweating was humiliating at times.

Totally agree with this one. I used to sweat ALL the time...it was soooo embarrassing. It's funny because now I stay cold all the time. Never thought that would happen, lol.

I certainly don't miss always being the biggest person in the room. My confidence is soooo much better now.

Another thing....it used to be a real struggle to get up off the couch. It was embarrassing, especially at social functions. It's so nice to be able to get up with no problem now.

I only sweat (to any sort of extent) on the bridge of my nose, but I almost always did it, which made it a pain to keep my glasses up.

Now I am always cold too! I like it  I can't remember the last time I broke into a sweat.

Crossing my legs is a biggie, and fitting into the ridiculously small seats at musicals & plays.

My main reason really was a health thing, the crippling lower back pain I had for years.. I forgot what being able to walk 20ft without pain was like.. so I love walking around grocery stores, parking far away from places, or even when we went to Vegas for our wedding a few months post-op, it was the first time I'd been to Vegas since a bad episode I had there where I collapsed on the floor in the middle of the Forum and bawled asking my husband to just leave me there because I couldn't walk anymore.. and when we were there for the wedding, 115 degrees and all I walked for miles around the strip without batting an eye. That was a beautiful moment for me and made the band worth it right then & there.

My thing always was about vanity. I couldn't stand not be able to wear nice clothes anymore.

As Laura mentioned, I hate going to events and barely being able to stuff myself into those little, itty bitty seats, it was so embarrassing.

I also avoided eating at public functions. I always felt like everyone was staring at me, the fattest girl in the room and thinking "why is she eating, she needs to stop eating".

Lastly, I just wanted to feel like a sexy woman again. I am not as young as I used to be and I want to feel good about myself again.

Ok, here goes.

#1. To get rid of that fat that hangs down from my gut that sits in my lap when I sit down.

#2. To be able to actually wash there and keep clean.

#3. Like you said to actually be able to wipe myself after going to the bathroom without feeling like I'm going to choke myself.

#4. To for once in my life time before I die be smaller than my middle sister! (She's the perfect one you know!)

#5. To feel at least semi sexy for my 50+ years!

#6. To be able to tie my shoes/boots without getting so out of breath.

etc...... etc...... etc.

There I said it!

*takes deep breath and plunges in*

1. To be able to see certain body parts (no real reason, just cuz) without needing a mirror.

2. Wiping. Yeah, that one's a good one. I wasn't to the point where I couldn't reach, but I could see that happening...

3. Showering with my hubby again.

4. Sweating. Can anybody say butt-crack sweats when you get up from the pleather salon chair after getting your hair cut? Or any chair that shows sweat, for that matter...

5. Getting up from the couch in one graceful movement rather than moving and heaving and moving again and getting a rolling start.

6. Not getting winded after two minutes of lovemaking. 'Course that means I'll have to re-train the hubby, but hey... lol

Steve, I find your honesty commendable. It's a super cheesy cliche', but the best thing for for me is being able to physically be "superman" again for my younger kids....they have a lot of generalized anxieties, and it's important to me that they feel like I can handle anything that might come up. Simply put, I like it that they think I look like a badass, instead of a fatass.

Wait, you reproduced?! There's little plains in the world?

And man are they crazy. Brilliant, but crazy. It runs in the wife's family.

OK will my bald there it is admission be the one that starts a shitfight, lol?

I will openly, happily and PROUDLY admit that whilst I did this to prevent future health problems (at a BMI of 36 I didnt have anything serious YET) my main reason was because l looked disgusting. I was a fat pig. I hated the way I looked, it was unattractive, unfit, ungroomed. I never felt pretty or like I took good care of myself, despite actually being well groomed, I always looked like a slob.

I'm sorry to offend people who have lost from a BMI of 50 down to 35 and are feeling great about themselves. It seems around here often you are not allowed to say a BMI of 35 is fat but it is. I looked awful naked, even worse on the beach trying to cover it up. I had cellulite and rolls and a big beefy face.

I looked horrible and i hated it so I had WLS to look better. I had it to feel better too and I feel FANTASTIC and I think (if I do say so myself, hehehe) that I look pretty freaking great for a 41 year old mother of three too!

But not plastic surgeried till within an inch of my life fake perfect - I look REAL PERSON good.

That's not to say at all that I dont look at other larger people and think "she's gorgeous" or "I love what she's wearing" - yes women mainly look at other women that way, lol. And I actually find a more cuddly guy much more attractive than buff gym boys. Peh. They dont look like they could ear $200K a year and do the football run on Saturdays with their kids! I like a bit of cuddle to a guy.

Wow, lots of honesty here! My reason were:

1. To be able to play the guitar again without my books getting in the way. Either had to shrink the boobs or grow longer arms.....

2. To be able to live the lifestyle I used to. Lots of sailing and messing about on boats until I found I couldn't get on and off boat anymore.

3. To not feel like I wanted to hide when I saw someone I knew who hadn't seen me in years...how many class reunions did I skip.

4. Bottom line...to stay alive.

I love this thread!!

1) I will not miss having to roll onto all fours and needing to have something industrial strength to push up on to get off the floor

2) I will not miss having to hold my lower belly up while I wash under it

3) I will not miss being overlooked or looked away from by "normal" size people

4) I will not miss BEING FAT!!! YEAHHHHHHH!!!

I have never been to a class reunion for this very reason.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
