Around 2 weeks ago I attended a seminar with Sean Woodcock, he is the Bariatric Surgeon, i'm hoping to have for my weight loss surgey on the NHS at North Tyneside General Hospital, I have been told to go away (with some help from the local PCT) and try and get some excersise in and loose some weight. I know in approx. 8 weeks time I will get an appointment to see how far I have come along before the hospital starts doing tests, has anyone had their surgery there and what does the pre-op tests and evaluations entail ???????? many thanks x :)

I was banded on the Nhs but at the heartlands in Birmingham 7 weeks ago .

I also had to loose 1-2 stone before surgery , I managed over a stone with just sensible eating and walking .

My pre op ass entailed : blood testing , Mrsa swabbing , weigh in , lots of questions about my general health etc .

Nothing too daunting .

Just try and focus and stay positive and strive towards your surgery , u will loose the weight asked If u really want this surgery .

Best wishes .. u can do it !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Sassy for your reply, I guess when you are waiting for things to happen its difficult, can I ask, when did your trust finally give the goahead for your banding ??? and also was the operation scary, you see I have never had an anesthestic never mind being put out for an operation.

I keep myself going by knowing that this is my last chance and its all worth it. Your reply is very much appreciated, I feel like the only person up here in the North as all the blogs etc come from the South xxx :)

Hi again hun :tt1:

Im sure it was about a month when I heard that my funding had gone through maybe a little sooner , but it felt like forever , it does when your waiting eh

The only scary bit is the unknown , The surgery & a/setic was fine .

Yes your a bit sore and tired for a good few days but after 2 weeks I was pretty much back to normal .

The gas pain was the worst thing :tt1:

Honestly u will be fine , like u this was my last chance at weight loss and to get healthy .

Its worth it I promise u , but its no miracle cure its merely just a tool to guide u .

But If your good to the band the band will be good to u .

best wishes hun

S x:thumbup:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
