flipped port/twisted port

Recommended Posts

I'm told I have a twisted port. I think it looks more flipped. They have ideas why it happened (to many crunches? is there such a thing?) and will attempt to adjust me again tomorrow with fluroscopy. I will also find out when they'll fix that. If they can adjust me, they said we can try to put it off until after new years. Otherwise I'll be in asap.

My point in posting this. I do NOT regret getting my band. Even not being at my sweet spot I lost 4 pounds since my last adjustment 2 weeks ago.

I am with you on this. Mine flipped and I had to go back in for surgery, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Can I ask where your port was located that crunches could do this (only if you want to share)? Near your ribs? I have a choice of location so I'm trying to gather opinions. Thanks!

I have photos of my incisions, and one has my hand pressing with a V formed around my port. It's a couple inches down from my ribs, about center stomach. It's between my belly button and my ribs.

It's sewn to a muscle, and if your muscle shrinks before you have built up enough scar tissue to protect the port, it can/will tear loose.

TL- Thank you for the info., you explained this very well...I hadn't heard anyone yet explain WHY it can flip. I wonder how long it takes to make it stable/scar tissue? Not sure what you mean by "adjustment"...can they just flip it back? I'm so sorry this happened to you and I'm hoping you'll have an answer soon. -BG

My port flipped after surgery as well - well we believe it was the week of surgery. I didn't find out until my first fill. I too had to have revision surgery. It was a breeze. Apparently mine wasn't stitched down well and the stitches came loose. It really wasn't a big deal to get corrected. It delayed my fills (recovery and all) and well frankly ticked me off but it was so worth it!

Mine was after I had already had 2 fills. When I went in for the 3rd, I had flipped. It was torn away from the muscle. When he did the repositioning of the port, he also did the third fill. I could tell the stitching was tighter than the first one.

It's slightly twisted, but totally workable. They won't do revision surgery unless it gets worse, or starts causing discomfort. I was able to get my second adjustment, or fill. And am back on liquids, but hey... it's worth it anyway.

Teri, So the twisted port, it is okay now? Will it go back to normal? If they revise it, that means they go back in?

I still look like I have a third boob. I swear I thought it would be hidden. Even so where the swelling is turns out the port is lower. If I try I can even feel it.

But I do worry, which is why no sit ups. Teri, really, my stomach hangs so low anyway, will it really do any good.

I have a Turkey Neck - gobble gobble gobble

Hanging Turkey Arms

Hanging tummy

But my but and thighs are getting firm from walking. Hey I am over 50, I don't need a tight butt, I would like a less saggy neck though.

Everyone tries to be helpful and they say, Oh you can take care of that. WHAT ANOTHER SURGERY. No way, I guess I will come to love the extra skin. Don't they have that squishy undies that sucks you in???

Besides, as down as I might get, when I see as I was told by my Band Buddy - two wet tube socks hanging from your chest, I remember my real reason for the band. To get healthy. I just have to keep my eye on the ball - a healthy heart. Sorry for being down, bad day, terrible day, shitty day, you pick the word. Debbie:blush:

Was for me too yesterday. Today will be better. I did some emotional eating yesterday, and the scale shows it. OUCH! Up 4 pounds (can't be from what I ate, as I'd have to have eaten all day, junk food), so I'm thinking PMS has hit my plate. Ah well that's just a few days of higher scale weights. And that's ok. It's not that bad. I remember being at my largest and gaining 10 to 15 pounds each month during pms time. I'll take 4 pounds. Just is hard to cope with.

Teri, just remember, stress can cause physical changes. Stress eating can cause Water retention, salty foods.... PMS, I remember that, PMS can add LOTS. So if that 4 pounds is there next week, that is a gain, if not it is just part of everything you have on your place right now.

How is your son? Were you able to take him home yet?

He came home late late friday. I don't much leave him, like even to sleep, so I'm not sleeping. I'm barely eating. I look terrible. SO much so I won't be taking my December photos until I can do something about that. My mom offered to watch the boys so I could nap today, but we have dr's appts most of the day. Yuck! Maybe thursday or friday. I did sleep better last night. But I'm up at least 10 times checking on him. Plus there was a terrible noise, right after we'd gone to bed last night. A plow truck lost his back tires and crashed just outside my house. Got me up and heart racing. So it was difficult to go back to sleep. But we're better here. Muddling our way thru it all. Just our normal.

How are you doing? Oh yea it was PMS cuz it went away a few days later.

I was told mine is just a little twisted or possibly a kink in the tube leading from the port, my first fill the nurse had a time getting the needle to go in port but all was fine and was even able to extract to see how much Fluid it held. second fill she found the port ok, could put fluid in but couldn't extract any, she had the surgeon then come in to talk to me. he wasn't overly concerned. he explained it was like a garden hose sometimes gets a twist in it and can work it's way out the more fills i get and the pressure from fills could straighten it or just repositioning after weight loss. he said when i get fills they will only put in smaller amounts each fill since it may be more difficult for me to get an unfill. my surgery was in september and the spot where my port is has just now lost that bruised sensation. my only regret is that I didn't have the surgery years ago. I feel better than I have in years!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
