Hi Everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to spice up the pre-op Optifast diet. Where I am getting my surgery done, they only allow us to have 3 chocolate Optifast shakes a day and 2 cups of veggies.

I have been trying to drink the shakes for the last week but I am really struggling to finish them due to the taste. Luckily, I haven't cheated at all but I am worried about how I will do in the second week. The only suggestion the clinic could give me was to add coffee to make it like a mocha (not that great). I have also figured out the peppermint covers the smell but its getting old fast.

Any help I could get would be great. Cheers!!

I think the vanilla is better than the chocolate. I quite like it with a strong coffee flavour, and you can add extra vanilla or coconut essence or low calorie syrups. The chocolate is disgusting.

Actually, I dont mind Optifast and i always have a box of the vanilla shakes ready - because I like them with banana and Peanut Butter blended in for Breakfast - not allowed pre op though sadly.

Wow Camikat you only have to drink 3 a day:closedeyes:, i had to do 5 a day and there was no cups of veggies...lol Although they did give me 3 different flavors and to me none of them was that bad. Choc. is my least favorite and that's the one i still have some left of. I'm surprised you did'nt have a choice of the flavors:glare: but i have heard of people adding flavor to them or like they say adding coffee to the drink. purhaps if you drink it fast you won't be able to savor the taste:drool:. hang in there it'll be over as fast as it started !

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
