I had my surgery 11/5 and had some sinus congestion afterward, which caused some coughing episodes. I am a little concerned about band slippage. It seems to be doing well but I wondered if you can tell when one has slipped. Is there increased pain, or more restriction? I have my first Doc. appointment on the 20th seems like they would insure that the band is where it is suppose to be before then, or am I just worrying for nothing.

I really like this forum and have gotten some good information, Thanks to All.:rolleyes2:

You would know if you'd slipped. This soon after surgery, you'd probably be in an immense amount of pain by now if you'd torn stitches.

I was also banded on Nov 5th and the next night I took my liquid pain meds too fast, followed by too many sips of Gatorade and I ended up heaving and throwing up for a minute or two. But my doctor assured me I couldn't have torn the stitches or caused slippage, because believe it or not, those suckers are in there pretty tight. You're going to be sore, that's a given. But I think chances are pretty slim that you've already caused slippage. Regardless, your doctor will be able to tell at your first appointment.

I had the operation at the end of a bout of flu.. and for three weeks after the operation I coughed severely - not from the lap band but specifically from the flu, I was extremely worried and placed pillows against my tummy when coughing.. it was that severe... however, I was assured the stitches would not move and it seems that is correct... I have had no issues with bping or vomiting, but on the coughing front, I was amazed everything just held together.. so yes.. they must put those stitches in amazingly well. Cheers and good Luck.

I got sick the day after my band was placed. I coughed myself right into have bronchitis. That said... I have had no problems with my band. I wish I had more restriction, but that's coming.

You are probably just fine. We use our diaphragm to cough and it probably did not affect your band. Symptoms of a slipped band vary depending on how it slips and how severe the slippage is. Some people don't have any symptoms, some get reflux, some get pain when eating, some can't eat at all some lose restriction and weight loss haults.

If you are really concerned, when you go in on the 20th have them do a fluro to make sure it is where it needs to be. Let them know about your concerns and they just might want to go ahead and do a fluro anyway.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
