Can any of you that have talked to the doctor like this tell me some of the questions that you asked?? Thanks in advance!

2. Who will be doing my fills?? him??

3. How long will I be on a liquid diet? mushies?

4. Under what circumstances would I have to have the band removed? I am wondering if I have bad reflux or other problems could I request it taken out?

5.How often will I need fills?

6. WHere will my port be located?

How did I know you were going to say Dr. Ortiz? he is very good about his phone calls to his patients and those who are inquiring info. Dr. Ortiz in my opinion is very kind and caring. He is my Dr. and I think very highly of him.He has been there for me then entire 15 months of this journey. He will take all the time you need in answering your questions. My friend was banded by him 6 weeks ago and had over an hour telephone consult with him doing exactly what you will be doing, asking questions prior to his surgery. Dr. Ortiz has placed the band on many teenagers. KarenB who is a member here, her teenage daughter Hanna was recently banded by Dr.Ortiz, I know she will answer any questions she can for you about her experience.Send her a PM.. I was just in TJ yesterday at Obesity Control Center ( his office) having a fill. Good Luck tonight, I hope your phone call goes well.

How about: What kinds of changes will I need to make in order to make this work? Or somethng along the lines of: what will my eating life look like after banding? How much weight would you expect me to lose if I get banded?

Wow, good for you beingme! And 14? Wow, that's young, for sure! But I now your parent's would let you do this on a whim. Good luck! Work hard and get great results!!!

Please let us know how it goes...we want ALL the scoop!

Hi there. Yup it's me; my daughter & I were both banded by Dr. Ortiz. Me in December, Hanna @ the end of May. I really like him a lot & I've been back to TJ for fills. Dr. Martinez, his associate (they do the bandings together) does the fills & he's great at it. I like both of them so much. You get both of their cell phone numbers to call anytime. They actually answer or get back to you soon after! It doesn't hurt either that they're both quite handsome! (both married, tsk, tsk.)

You didn't say where you live--I'm in NY and went back 2X so me and then my daughter could have our 1st fills. It's quite a trip--I do have aftercare here as well. If you don't live in CA, I would highly recommend lining up after-care near you. It's really important that you do that.

Please feel free to PM me.

Tell Dr. Ortiz tonight that Karen & Hanna say hi!

O.K., I'm adding these words now. I didn't realize you are 14. Feel free to have your mom or yourself PM me. My daughter is 17 1/2 & had other medical issues. She is very happy she was banded.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
