Mel, I'm so sorry you're up against this. :) The good news is that you're young, and things have a way of changing over time. Maybe you can look for a different job? Maybe you can take on a part-time job and bank the money toward saving toward banding?

Nothing is ever "over" as long as we're willing to keep trying. Look up, look around, look everywhere and things will fall into place. I'm confident that everything will work out the way it's supposed to for you--a delay is not always a bad thing.

Dear Mel...

My insurance won't cover my lapband, either, and my credit has been shot in the past and tho enough years have passed for it to mostly to have dropped off my record, I don't have enough income, and all I have is a Visa check card.

So I've scrabbled together $8,000 plus bus fare for a trip to Monterrey Mexico. Free fills for life of the appliance, and bus fare will only be $80/trip. And I will have free housing.

I looked into doctors in Texas who were offering lapband surgery for $10,000 to $12,000, but they still mostly do stomach chop jobs, and only had maybe 2 lap bands a week. In Europe, Mexico and Latin America, they've been doing these surgeries for a long time and the surgeons are very skilled and the Monterrey hospitals are great.

Keep your chin up and, in the meantime, try to keep up as much physical activity as you can so your health doesn't crash like mine did.

OneMoreTime

ps: for somewhat more, you can get airfare from anywhere in the continental US, too, plus free airfare and housing for the first fill.

Good morning,

Thank you one more time for your words of encouragement. Im trying to figure out some way to get this surgery done but odds are looking slim. I wish i was able to save that money up. It would take a while to save that up and i will be miserable even longer, but if its not meant to be right now, then its not. But i will keep praying and hoping that that day will come. It also just makes me reallize that when i have children i want to be in the best state possible that way they will never have to want for anything. I hope they wont need surgery but i mean anything else they need. Good luck to you and i will keep you posted.

Good thinking Mel! You can do this. A good job and some cash in the savings account every paycheck goes a long way toward your future goals. Whether it's banding, kids, a future home, whatever! Besides, if you change jobs, your new insurance might just cover it!

What about a low-interest loan from a family member? I know you want to do these kinds of things on your own, but you may be surprised at the support you may recieve from your loved ones, especially when it comes to your health! Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
