What happens if you've had your fills and you get the stomach flu and you have to throw up - how does it come up through the band? Because the flu will be in the lower stomach (and probably pouch, too). Has this happened to anyone?

If you get the stomach flu and your throwing up you need to get to your band doc ASAP and get an unfill ! Throwing up should be avoided for any reason when you have the band. it WILL come up through the band , i will tell you when I THROW Up throw up , and not just PB It hurts like a SOB .

But it will come up , that's why you have to get to the doc ASAP and get at least a slight unfill most will totally unfill you if your throwing up often .

I have to have a constant supply of zofran due to Migraines, i throw up from them . So I have it on hand all the time.

I was told to get to my doctor or emergency room asap if I got a stomach virus. I actually was reading an article in the newspaper the other day and it was about a new vaccine that they are giving babies to prevent the rotarvirus (thats the one that causes the stomach flu)... I don't know if it's only for babies, but I think it would be awesome if banders could get it someday!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
