After 4 fills and being at 3.1 cc tight and gaining 25 lbs. I decided to drive to TJ for another fill and checkup with Dr. Kuri. To my surprise I arrive and was informed that I was tight and that I could not get another fill. Reality hit me hard since it made me think about my eating habits. I need to make better decisions with my food and of course stop drinking while eating. I know is one of our main band rules but after losing 75lbs. my mind trick me thinking that it was ok to cheat for a while but I got out of hand. Now I am back to basics and will need to refocus my energy in order to be successful once again.

Congrats, you are now wiser!

Thanks for sharing your story. I know when I was loosing I relied heavily on the band. Now that I'm on maintenance, I still rely on the band but less and less each passing month.

thanks for sharing your story. i think it's really important for the newbies to hear storied like this... that you can STILL gain weight even if you're banded!

i learned a month into being banded how to eat around it... what i could eat large amounts of without PB'ing (like hot fudge sundaes). this is how so many people fail.

it is a constant struggle for me... even being over 6 months post-op. when to stop eating. how to eat slow. how to take small bites. it even got as bad for me to being HAPPY when i would PB because that meant the binged food was coming out.

it took my pouch getting stretched for me to re-evaluate my situation. i risked my band slipping. i risked wasting $12,000. i risked all the hard work i put towards losing the 41 pounds already gone.

i'm back on track. it's hard but i'm going to do what it takes to lose the other 40 pounds!

I think we get comfortable with the band and start sneaking back to some of our old habits. If we keep with the band rules and remember how we got to our pre-band spot in the first place we will do okay.

Good luck.

Thanks for sharing. I am only 3 weeks post-op and all this information is good for us to hear. It helps to prepare us and help us keep our minds on why we got banded to begin with. Thank you!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
