Nov 11th - any suggestions

Recommended Posts

We got the call today - mu husband is going to be banded on the 11th in Decatur. He asked if there was anything sooner. They haven't said anything about a pre-opt fast though. We go on Nov 3 to get final blood and do all the rest, hoping they will say something then.

What exactly have some of you done on the pre-opt fast?

Its a diet that the docs have you go on, anywhere from two weeks to three days before surgery, they usually tell you about it, but do be afraid to ask. My docs requirement was a two week liquid diet and lose 10 lbs before my surgery date.

My doctor didn't require a preop diet. Some surgeons want their patients on Atkins and others want a liquid diet. You need to ask. If they think his liver is enlarged, they will need to make sure it has time to shrink before surgery. Ask about maybe doing Atkins from now until surgery. Many liquid diets are so high in sugar they wreck havoc on you appetite.

Please don't forget to call and ask. You don't want someone assuming someone else told him and get there the day of surgery and have it canceled.

He is having the banding done at Decatur Memorial Hosp. Dr Gilman - thanks for all the suggestions. I think he will start on Monday something just so he is ahead of the game

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
