Hi guys, I like this thread, My name is Monica. I am married but have no kids. Me and my husband work full time and go to school full time. Can you say busy? Some weeks I feel like I don't even know where the days went...lol. I was banded back in September and am finding it hard to find things that are easy for me to eat and fulfilling enough to keep me satisfied on the run. I really don't like Protein mixes and find that they just don't stick with me very long. I'm getting my protein in just by eating but I have had a few sliming episodes and have also gotten stuck several times. It's a little irritating because I don't have 30 mins to eat all the time...Anyway, it's nice to see there are others like me on here...

Hello everyone! I'm in graduate school, taking classes mostly online at the local state university. I work part time and go to school part time right now, but next semester I will be quitting my job and focusing on full time school, taking four classes. My surgery is scheduled for December 3rd, and I should graduate next December. That gives me a year to lose some weight and gain confidence for my job search!

Hello all,

So, I started college when I was 15 years old and finished my AA degree and graduated before I got my High school Diploma. (early warning, I suck at spelling still!!). I took 6 months off when I was done with my highschool diploma and I took a road trip to find myself.

I had a really bad break up my senior year. I litterally gained 100 lbs since then. I started my BS in psychology spring semester of 2007. I finished my BS degree in one year, last may and I'm currently still going because I'm working on doing research and I am an Ambassador. I am only 20, 5 months until my 21st bday.. Seems like it took forever to get here!

I have super senior itis and I've lost all my motivation lately. I work a full time graveyard job taking care of disabled clients, its hard work because they never listen lately. I wish I didn't work, but im paying for everything myself.

I was working at a day care program on campus this year and the kids kept saying comments on how fat I am, they didnt mean to hurt me, but I didn't truely realize how fat I had gotten until then. I started researching this information and within a month or two I decided I needed it or I was going to die. My mom didnt agree with it and would make comments about how I have so much willpower with school that I could do this too. I was like no I can't if I could I would have done it a long time ago. I was going to die if I kept on my own path and she slowly realized that.

I decided I was going to do it no matter what and a month later I had surgery and havent looked back since. It's been a little over 5 months since surgery and I've lost 62 lbs. I went from 303-241 lbs. I've lost over 20 inchs and went from a 24/22 pant to an 18. I have a long way to go which fustrates me, I need to focus on 5 lbs at a time, just doing that is hard.

I hit my 60 lbs mark for halloween and it was great, I took a night off, well what I thought would be a night and I've lost all my motivation since then. I need to get back on track but cant find my motivation.. Does that happen to others? This month is just stressful because of all the papers and things due for school.

Well sorry this post was so long, I wasn't expecting it to be this long. Take care

~Jade

Hey Guys! Hey Cali W...whoo-hooo for nursing. I am a 20 year old Christian college student. I attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time. I'm very happy about it. School is awesome when you aren't particularly allowing yourself to be stressed out and things of that nature. I am a current major in Gender and Women's studies. Hopefully, I can get a job after college (Undergrad that is) and be like a mentor at a youth or group home or something along those lines. If I go on to do this or not, I'm going to enroll in a nursing school. Hopefully UIC in chicago or Loyola in Chicago as well. Wish me well ladies! This weight battle has been very difficult though considering the fact that its expensive in time and money to actually control and measure calories. Tell me ladies and Gents...How do you all manage? Oh and hats of to the facilitator of this thread!

I guess I'll dive into the college thread! Hey Bikini- I saw the Smashing Pumpkins October 8th! It was really, really awesome. I got a little more star-struck seeing Billy Corgan than I thought I would, though.

I'm set to graduate in May, but if I have my way, I'll be a college student for quite some time. Hoping to go to law school in the fall, even though I haven't applied anywhere just yet. I'm a little slow-going on taking the LSAT and everything. I'm also a Religious Studies major with a minor in Anthropology. Started out as a major in Anthro, but then realized I was attracted to religion because it's the way in which nearly every culture explains the world around it! Just fascinates me a lot! :3

Hey, I'm Devo and must say its glad to hear there are some people in my same boat. I've recently graduated with a Degree in Finance, but a good majority of my friends are still in college or just out of college. So I'm still surrounded by that typical "college" life.

I was banded on 12/5/2008, no one besides one of my best friend knows I was banded, so its getting pretty difficult trying to pass up going to Hollywood or going out for a bite to eat, with out them suspecting something or giving me a hard time. I'm just hoping these next 5 weeks go by quicker. haha

Anyway, how does alcohol affect us now that we have a band? Is it much easier to get drunk now? Okay. Someone let me know. LATE!

i started my preop at the end of may and didn't drink anything again until about october...when I turned 21 and pretty much HAD to haha. I can't really do beer any more. I do well with wine and girly drinks like parrot bay's mixed bottles. I played a couple games of beer pong a few weeks ago and got sick. I used to be able to drink a lot, but now I can only have a few..not because I get drunk, but because I'll be really nauseated in the morning. I don't know if anyone else has problems with drinking. My dietition said its ok to drink occasionally, but to stick to thing with lower calories. wine has low calories. margarita and beer has a lot of calories in it.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
