I had my deductible $$ saved in the bank for months now. Well.... things happen.... we've dipped into it little by little and our bills are behind so bye-bye $2,000. I have to start from scratch. F#$%ing great.

My DH just doesn't understand the absolute disappointment I'm experiencing. If all else fails I'll be able to have surgery in Dec/Jan.

My doctor just submitted everything to insurance (and ins states it only takes them a few days to approve)... so I was expecting/hoping to have surgery within the next 3-4 weeks... 4 max. It's easy for him to think Dec/Jan is only a couple/few months away..... but for someone who has been anxiously anticipating surgery for months now, it sounds like years away.

I just got off the phone with Capital One healthcare finance and got DENIED... friggin great... I don't even know why. My car loan is through them and my credit is fine. My score isn't HIGH, but it certainly isn't low.

Thanks for letting me rant..... feel free to offer some sympathy and/or encouragement..... I'm off to find stuff to sell on ebay. Adios every designer thing I own and all of my clothes that are too small (that I was hoping to wear again, guess I'll just have to buy new ones later on).

Who do you have to pay the deductible to? Your doctor or the hospital? I know with past insurance that I've had before, I've been billed for the deductible after I've had a procedure done. If this is true for you, then couldn't you get the procedure done and make payment arrangements for the deductible?

Just a thought - I hope it helps.

Oh Kaytiebugs...I feel your pain, and I'm so sorry that happened to you...:smile2:

I like SillyGoose's suggestion...in addition to selling things on EBay, do you have relatives that might kick in a little to help? Maybe they can't cover the whole thing, but ya never know until you ask.

You could also move the money to a different bank / credit union all together - preferably someplace that is out of your way so it's a real effort to get to the money. Make it someplace that you don't go very often, and DON'T get a debit card for the account. An extreme solution would be to take out a CD for the amount, but by the time you get the entire 2K, you'll be scheduling your surgery again, so that's probably not an option.

Throw a yard sale - depending on where you live, that might get you part of the way there...any chance of overtime for you or hubby? If you can even get part of the money, maybe you can make a 'downpayment' on the deductible and pay the rest over time.

Hope it all works out quickly for you - I can only imagine the pain and disappointment...it will all work out! *hugs*

I agree with sillygoose! I haven't even paid my hospital bill (haven't gotten it!) yet and I had surgeries 8/11 AND 8/29! Do you have to pay the deductible up front? If not, go ahead and have your surgery!

I'm so sorry Katiebugs :smile2: Check with your doctor's office to see what they say about letting you make payment arrangements on the co-pay. They bill insurance companies A LOT more than self-pay patients so even without your $2K co-pay they probably still recoup more through insurance than they do with self-pay.

I know the feeling. I took a withdrawal on my 401(k) and by the time the check was cut the portion I could withdraw shrunk from $1600 to $1300 in just a week (last week of course)! As far as the "deductible"--I'm covered 100% but my drs. office has a program fee of $1500 which covers lifetime office visits (except fills), the nutritionist, excercise consultant, and other follow-up fees just in case my insurance ever changes/lapses. It's one of the Bariatric Centers. I questioned it at first but it's better than paying up to $20,000 and then paying for every visit I have to make. I get it -- the economy is bad --I know you didn't use your savings on fun stuff. Maybe you can make payment arrangements for 6 months to a year. They already know they will get paid thru the insurance company. Maybe they'll let you put 1/4 down and divide the rest over a few months...??? I'm very sorry--but in this day and age, I understand that everyday living always comes first. Let me know how it turns out and good luck.

Crystal

I had the same problem. Had my surgery, then got the bill - can't pay all at once. I don't owe the doctor any money so his office is fine with me continuing to get fills. They are very unconcerned about it.

Kaytiebugs, if your doctor or hospital is requiring the deductible be paid up front, have you tried Care Credit? I was able to be approved through them to pay my doctor's program fee ($1300) and they offer 18 months no interest. I don't have the best credit, so maybe you can get approved through them? I just went to carecredit.com. I hope everything works out for you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
