Less Than 24 Hours Unitl My Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I am getting a little nervous. I have less than 24 hours before my surgery. I think it will go great, but I am scared of not eating the foods that I love. I just keep thinking about being in a skinny body that I will have soon. Wish me luck, and I wish everyone else luck on their weight loss journey.:crying:

Hi everyone.

Fhlippr, you will be able to eat most, if not all, of the "foods that you love". You may want to pass on many of them until you've lost, but odds are you won't have any limitations. My Doc says stringy red beef and white bread that isn't toasted are the 2 big problem areas. I know of bandsters who even eat popcorn and drink the occasional soda!

AND odds are, if you follow guidelines, that the love affair with food will fade anyway. You'll find other things that interest you more.

Isn't that just wonderful? Good luck to you all! I love my band and hope you all love yours too.

Good luck with your surgery!!!

We all have some of the same thoughts on what we will be able to eat after being banded. I have been able to eat everything I did before the band just one heck of a lot less of it. I can eat about a cup of food and I feel full. The surgery was a breeze hardly no pain and all I took was tylenol for about 3 days and that was it. Keep us posted!

I too am having surgery tomorrow. I had a rough couple of weeks, emotion wise, but all of a sudden Monday after my final weigh in I got very calm. I was on phase 1 of South Beach all week to shrink my liver and today at 11:30 I had to take Fleet Phosa Soda and then Clear Liquids the rest of the day. All of sudden while at the nail salon (to get my polish off my acrylic nails) it hit me. I will never be able to eat a BIG meal again. My fellow bandsters keep telling me I will be able to eat anything in the future, just smaller portions. Still, its a big step. I hear you all! I have to be at the hospital at 5:15am

I had the surgery this morn (Monday) and am at home. Everything went well and I feel good (due to the pain meds, of course). The barium didn't taste that bad during the x-ray. Loved the hospital staff - St. Peters Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ, and Dr. Bertha was wonderful. Godspeed and good health to all of us bandsters!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
