I am about to give up can anyone help me?!?!

Recommended Posts

I had the lapband surgery in feb. And i have lost some weight but it has been absolute hell. I have had three tightenings since, and when they do the adjustment they do a swallow study so i know my band is not slipped, but i am constantly sick. One day i can eat, and the other day i cant. I haven't been able to eat any meat in three months or longer. I can only eat salad, but whatever i can eat, i can eat a lot of it, so i dont think my band is too tight. Can someone help me, i am basically bulimic and it's like the EXORCIST.

I am about to give up! Please someone help me!

My goodness, isn't your doctor helping you through this? He should be all over finding out what is going on. As for the eating... Just because you can eat as much as you want doesn't mean you should. I'm not into this as long as you yet, but I do know that I chose the LB and I understood that I was going to have to do some work too... Otherwise I would have had bypass...... I recommend that you talk to your doctor and then get yourself on a Portion Control regime of some sort.. Changing the amount you eat could help with the rest.. You never know!!!!! Keep the faith and don' t give up now.... Julie

I have to ask.. Why does everyone say that they are going to give up so easily.. Instead of saying one is going to give up one should say they need the assistance to continue you on full force..and it is not just this thread I have seen it several times on the boards..

I would suggest that you speak with your doctor .. Tell him/her everything and ANYTHING you are feeling .. You must be open and honest with your doctor to help them help you ..if you are unable to remember certain steps or processes to take food wise then get with your nutritionist and see if he/she can help you make a food plan that will work for you..

Not all food will be tolerated by your stomach now .. So you might need to find softer leaner meats to consume. Try a tuna salad or chicken salad and see if you can handle those.. Experiment, but dont stuff yourself.. You should not be getting sick or throwing up and if you are you really needs to make your doctor help you through this..

Best of luck.. and don't give up.. Giving up is not the way out your are looking for .. Be strong and make your doctor help you... You can do this..

First, it's not me giving up easily, I have seriously not been able to eat anything but salad for 3 months, I have not been able to eat a bite of meat. ANY meat, and believe I have tried them all. My doctor is was no help, so I switched to a different doctor, this doctor does the same thing...If my doctors would help I wouldn't be asking for advice, my nutritionist answer is diet and exercise, well I know that, but the lack of food makes me feel like I'm going to pass out when I'm on the treadmill. I am stuck completely..

I understand when everyone is saying if you can eat a lot not to. I don't I have lost 30 lbs in 30 days and it's not in a healthy way, I am more concerned of my health now then when I was 70 lbs heavier.

Try putting your meat in a food processor to chop it up. Then use a baby spoon to eat it. This may sound drastic, but it will help you get Protein in, get you to adjust your eating habits to small bites, and hopefully help you in being able to eat something other than salad. Also, try small pieces of cheese, they are filling and soft so it may help in filling you up with a smaller amount of food.< /p>

I think you are in "bandster hell" and you will benefit from being patient and trying many different things to get you through this. Use this board as often as needed and I thnk that will help too. Good Luck.

Are you taking tiny eraser size bites of meat and chewing it until it's liquid?

then waiting and see if it goes down before trying another bite?

Stephyd....I feel like I need to apologize for the people who have judged you when you came to them for support. That being said, lets try to get some suggestions out there that may help. I have been banded for 2yrs and know the emotional roller coaster that this journey can be. Please know everyone is here for you. This is the one place you should be able to come and be completely honest and not feel judged. Everyones evolves at their own pace. You'll be fine. Have you tried making casseroles. I would overcook the noodles and make sure i chopped the death out of the hamburger so it was no longer identifiable. The mush was actually quite tasty. Make sure you take small bites but more important, chew, chew, chew. Have you been checked to make sure the band is placed correctly or that it hasn't slipped? If this keeps up make sure you go to a doctor who will listen to you because something may be wrong. Be persistant. Best of luck to you and please let me know how things turn out for you.

actually stephyd, i think you are too tight. oddly enough my band gets tighter over time, and when lean meats become difficult - i go in and get a slight unfill. while a salad is a healthy choice, i'd be concerned of nutrition & the lack of Protein and complex carbs in your diet. have you tried healthy soups: lentils/chili? the thought of pureed meat doesn't appeal to me, but as suggested above - have you tried egg/tuna/chicken salad?

again, i think you may be too tight. you shouldn't be restricted to a point of only being able to eat salads...

stephyd - I'm going to approach this from a different angle. I think you need to be assertive with your doctor and insist on tests to see if something has happened with your band. Being sick every other day is not normal. If your doctor doesn't take your complaints seriously because he (like many doctors) has become complacent and approaches everyone with a "one size fits all" mentality - then contact patient services at the hospital. They have reps who can help you. Good luck. I hope you get better because I know this is not what you signed up for!

My Dr says that lettuce might cause trouble. Also, there are quite a few meats that I was told I may never be able to eat again. They suggest deli meats cut into the size of pencil erasers when beginning meat. Perhaps going back on your protien drink would help. As they say, when all else fails, revert back to liquids. My only other suggestion is go to the ER, vommiting after eating anything is life threatening. Have they checked you for slippage?

OMG 30lbs in 30 days is not at all healthy. I hope you are at least taking a vitiams everyday. I would stay on the Dr. 's until thay could give me some answers. Even if i had to get a third Dr. i would. I was banded July 21and i have lost 50lbs since surgery. But i have not even had one fill yet. But everyone is differant. Have thay done a MRI to make sure everything is ok with your band. It may not be slipped but maybe there is something else going on. Ask for a exray. I bet you are not getting much protien either. Can you drink slim fast or something hign in protien ? Keep me posted and hang in there God Bless lynnlynn

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
