Slipped Band

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have just found out on Friday I have a slipped band, my band has been totally unfilled, so my question is should I be on liquids or what kinds of foods should I be eating, my doc said I could go on a liquid diet but did not seem fussed weather I did or not, so I wanted to know what other people have done when they had a slipped band.

thanks

I think you should ask your doctor to be more specific as to what he wants you on and for how long ? each doc is different.

My doc requires 3 days of each phase (Clear Liquids , full liquids, mushies , semi solids ) after each FILL and unfill no matter what ) others require no liquids , others requires 24 hours and so on . So I think you should ask your doc to be specific !

Hi Magii.... I am in same situation as you. I just found out this Friday (10/10/08) that my band had slipped. My Dr didnt tell me to go on liquids, etc. he just told me to try not to gain weight since I got a total unfill. I have been eating the same as I was when I had a fill HOWEVER I am noticeably hungry and really have to watch myself. I have to go back in 3 weeks for another flouroscopy and see if part of my stomach went under the band again. Do you have to go back in one or two weeks? Did your Dr tell you what is next? I'm assuming that if there is no change in my slip I will have to have a revision. Hope you are doing well and wonder if you heard from anyone else who has had a slipped band and if they went on liquids or continued on solids.

I thought everyone had to be on a liquid diet when they are dealing with a slip but what do I know. Did you ask your doctor after he told you that you had a slip?

I'm going to call Dr today and see what he says about being on liquids until then. I do have an appt on 11/7 for another flouroscopy. I do love my band and hope the slip corrects itself!

would it depend on how sever the slip is?

I was on liquids until my revision surgery but in my case the slip was major and I had popped a stitch. Could barely handle eating solids without major pb'ing so it was for the best.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I have to have another barium swallow at the end of October to see if my slip has fixed its self and go back to see my doctor in early November. The feeling I had when my band slipped was vomiting and bad reflux during the night I also had heartburn during the day but the reflux at night was really bad I would wake up with liquid coming out of my nose, and that was even with having my last drink about 7 or 8pm. Hope all of you with slips are doing well keep us informed as to how you are going.

Wow I am so glad that I came across this posting because I went to the doctor last Thursday 10/16 and my doctor told me to go on a soft/mushies diet for 3 weeks and then go back under floroscope to see if my stomach went back the way it was supposed to. I had no idea I would have a possible slip. I was going in for a fill then he looked and said well your pouch is really big so either the band slipped or not sure what happened. I am so bummed out about that. Any ideas of what I need to be doing in the 3 weeks besides just eating mushies?

Thanks,

Karen

hey there my name is brittany... my mother and i both have been banded but just recently my mother hasnt been able to keep anything down for the past 4 days... we took her to the hospital and they say her band has slipped and there is extreme pain in her chest and stomach. Her esgphagus has inflammed to the point where she is completely closed up. Now this doctor at the hospital isnt the same one who did her surgery but he is suggesting to do a scope and try to expand her opening and the 2nd thing is to remove the band... i have a strong feeling that it should be removed... i need some advice... can anyone help? has anyone been through this?

I agree with coltonwade....you should have your mom go back to her surgeon and see what they have to say. It might be something else....it's worth seeing what your original doctor has to say.

A lot of times, slips can be resolved by going on the liquid diet and keeping the band unfilled. I agree that she needs to see her band surgeon. Did you guys go to Mexico?

That is the problem when people go to Mexico. I am not saying there is anything wrong with Mexican surgeons, but it's hard to get back there when there is a problem.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
