Newbie - Surgery scheduled 10/13/08

Hi! I am scheduled for surgery on 10/13/08. I am on the "fast track" plan so I only have to do the 2 week pre-op diet. I am from San Antonio, Texas - any other San Antonians out there????

If you meant you were scared about having to chew etc? LOL Don't worry about that. One year out many people have lost successfully and eat normally, only less. One poster here says she even has popcorn now at movies; she just doesn't need the huge bucket any more. You'll be shocked and happy, I think! :crying: Dr Cavazos doesn't want us so restricted that we are PB'ing and sliming everytime we put something in our mouths. He'll guide us through this.

Hello! Well it has been 4 days since my surgery and every day gets better. I am still pretty bloated - even when I empty some gas, it seems like I build up more. Is that normal? Also, I still have diarrhea. I am only drinking my 64 oz water and broth. Nothing else. I am not hungry, either so that is good. How long does it take for the swelling to subside?

Hi Patti! How are you? Nice to see you on the boards! I think your symptoms are pretty normal; Carla (the NP at Dr. C's office) told me my diarrhea was caused by the anesthesia and it would get better...by about 9-10 days post op it was over with!

Same with the gas...I didn't have any pain but I did seem to produce gas more easily. That went away, too.

If in doubt of course call the office and ask them! :wink2:

So glad to see you on the "other side" and also to hear you aren't really hungry yet. I was starving in recovery!

Ok, so now its been 6 days since surgery and I getting hungry. I am also extremely tired. I understand why, hell I have no protein in my body. When did Dr. C let you start on thicker solids (like protein shakes?). I called his office yesterday morning and had to leave a VM but they never even called me back. Now they are closed. SO RUDE.:tongue_smilie:

Since I was, um, taken to task (to put it way more nicely that what actually happened!) about telling you "you should" etc when you asked before about preop stuff...(several posters felt I was bossy, at best, with you) I am reluctant to post at all now about this!

But since YOU never complained (just other people???) LOL

This is what I was supposed to do, per the nutritionist...

I got more EAS shakes (or the other ones on the list they gave me) for week 2.

I think you have an appt to go back next weds, right? That's when they'll tell you all that. But no protein until a full 7 days have passed. AT least, that's what he had ME do. I'm sure he does something different with each and every patient! (not!) LOL :tongue_smilie: If I sound like I'm being pissy I am LOL

not to you though!

I feel your pain. I was hungry from recovery on. All I can tell you is, it gets better and it's worth it!

Sorry they didn't call you back; they are only open 1/2 day on many Fridays but they still should've called you. Except for a run in with Carla, I've had excellent service and response from everyone there! I hope they step it up for you!

How are you feeling, besides tired bored and hungry?
