Can you eat/drink before a fill?

Recommended Posts

I'm having my 1st fill at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow and forgot to ask if I should refrain from eating/drinking before I go.

For those who have had adjustments, would you please tell me what instructions you were given re: eating/drinking prior to a fill?

Thanks so much for your help!

My instructions are:

"No solid food 2 hours prior, but you can have liquids throughout the day."

It seems everyone is different. I was told I could eat and drink before the fill, just don't have a heavy meal before you come it. Sounds like your fill is early enough you shouldn't have any problems. I really didn't notice much of a difference in restriction with my first fill, its just part of the process to get you where you need to be, depends on how aggressive your Doc is! It was really easy for me, it should be that way for you also.

My doctor said there was no restrictions prior to a fill but I do not know about afterwards cause I have not had a fill yet.

I personally don't eat for a fill by several hours but drink as much as I want. Because I do have some restriction, I thought if there was any remaining food in my pouch when I got the fill, I would not be able to easily distinguish if my fill was at the "right" level or not. Usually I can tell just by how the Water goes down whether it is too much or too little. It works better for me this way.

I have no restrictions after the fill. I asked them why they don't require liquids for a day or so like many others, and they explained that some people take a couple of days to feel their fill "kick-in" so there is not much point in restriction. The only thing they stress is taking it easy so you don't cause yourself to pb.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
