I've looked around a few forums for weight loss surgery and found this one to be the most informative and to have the nicest people!! My husband just joined the NUPOC program in the navy and it seems as if the insurance Tricare will pay for the procedure for me. It's something I've been wanting to do for a few years now and it looks like I'm going to get my wish! I'm looking foward to 'meeting' everyone here! I've uploaded a photo album and info, so feel free to stop by and say hi!

Thank you for your welcome! I live in the DFW area and have not chosen a doctor yet. Today is the first day I have insurance so I still have to choose my new PCP and then I can start the process! I'm hoping there is not a certain amount of time that I have to have to have this insurance before they will consider me...I'm at 255 and still gaining:embaressed_smile:. I'm so excited for you Austex!! Hopefully this week will fly by for you! And maybe I'll be in your shoes in the next couple of months!

Hi New Navy Wife-

I'm in DFW, Grapevine and I'm in the process right now with the Baylor Medical system. I went to a seminar with them and Lap Band Solutions and chose Baylor because it is closer to my house and I like the Baylor system/hospital. LBS does this as a business and they are very good at it, I just wanted more of a medical approach and it might take me a little longer this route. I have my nutritionist appt next week and I'm trying to schedule an appt with a psychologist also (it's required).

I'm a bit irked, I just got a letter from my insurance carrier that they will no longer be participating in my insurance pool, so I'll have to choose another beginning in Jan. I'm going to work really hard at getting approved and done before that happens so I don't have more out of pocket expenses, additional wait time, etc.

Just throwing in my 2 cents! Have a good one.

Kathi

Hi all,

I'm also from around the Dallas area. I was approved and my surgery is on Nov. 5th. I went through Lapband Solutions also, and I have to say that they have awesome. They took care of ALL of the paper work. All I had to do was show up for the appt. I go for my pre-op appt on the 27th. If your still in the first stages, I highly recommend LBS.

I have looked into LBS and if my insurance will let me choose them, I might. I've heard great things about Dr. John Marsden though and his hospital in Ft. Worth is fairly close to me. I've read all kinds of 'reviews' on the hospital and the Doc and no one has any complaints! Anyone here used him? Well, first I have to pick a PCP and get meds for my blood preasure and such, then I think I have to get him to refer me?? I've been so busy trying to set up my insuarance, I don't quite know what order I have to go in:) Hopefully I'll find someone with Tricare that has done this recently! I'm so ready to get this ball rolling!!:cool2:

After months of resolving health issues, getting my sleep apnea under control(took 3 sleep studies UGGG!!), and making sure what I thought were heart palpitations were not a concern, I had my consultation with my surgeon on the 2ond. He said that other than maybe needing to do the preop diet for longer than two weeks because of my fatty liver, that I was a great candidate! He sent the paperwork in that day and Tricare APPROVED ME yesterday!!!!!

The insurance stipulated that I not have it before May 9th for whatever reason, so I'm going to have one last night out tonight and wine and dine myself stupid, then start on my own version of the pre op diet till I can talk to the Doc about what he wants me to eat! I'm so excited! I actually cry laughed when I checked Humana online last night and saw I was approved! My husband came running in thinking I'd lost my mind!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
