Boy do I wish I had found this website right after my surgery, I might have been close to my ideal weight by now. I was banded in July of last year (I weighed in at 280) and now, one year later, I've lost only about 20 lbs. My ideal weight is anywhere between 150-140 lbs. So I have around 110 lbs. to lose. At first I did everything right and that's where my weight loss happened. I've had 5 fills to date. I don't eat a huge amount of food, not even platefuls and I don't eat high calorie/carb foods on a normal basis. But I'm not losing weight. I'm right at 260 and have been there for the past 8-9 months...I'm rather frustrated with myself. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to running around the forums and getting myself back on track.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you haven't had as much success as you hoped. I hope this forum proves to be helpful to you!

Just curious - do you know how many CCs total you have in your band? And how many it holds? Do you feel some restriction with the band?

Also - have you counted up your calories - even just for a few days to gauge your average daily calories? I went to a nutritionist a while back and discovered I was eating at least 3500 calories a day, when I thought I was eating a "normal" amount closer to 2000 (I thought maybe 2500-3000). It was an eye opener for me.

Also - have you been tested for things like hypothyroidism? I have it, and it definitely plays a role in my weight - if I'm not taking proper meds.

Anyway, it's great that you're taking the step of joining this forum - I'm sure you can find ways to succeed with your band!

-Susan

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes.

In response to thesuse2000, I am not sure how many cc's my band holds. But I do remember at my last fill (in April) that the doctor said I was almost to the limit, or something to that effect. I assumed he meant as much as the band could hold? And no, I haven't counted calories, I'm used to counting carbs instead. No, I have not been tested (at least to my knowledge) for anything related to my thyroid. Though I do suppose it would be a good idea.

I've been able to lose up to 60lbs. before on a strict low carb diet. I can't understand why I can't do it again. Huh...

Wow, there's a thread for 7/07 's? That's pretty neat! I'm going to head over there and take a look. :dita: Thanks again everyone!! Hopefully I'll be able to concentrate more now that I will have some accountability/support.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
