Hello, Getting banded in Feb. 2009

Recommended Posts

Hi...I just began the process this week. I've attended a 2 hour informational seminar, met with the exercise consultant, nutrition consultant, had my psych. eval and met with the surgeon. Lots of information to take in all at once. So my question for all of you new-B's...have you read all the stuff online and then met with the people involved and found out that the diets and what you can and can't eat don't match up to what you have read? Love to hear some feedback!

Yes I think I get your drift. Each surgeon puts his or her own spin on things. My best advice to you is to do what YOUR surgeon tells you to. You will trust him or her with your life on that OR table; you trust him to place the band, so trust him on the rest of it, too. On line is great IF you take the info with a grain of salt! (just a grain though; don't want too much salt LOL)

Hello,

If you read this forum, you will find out alot of information that generally goes along with what your surgeon's office/nutrionist, etc. will tell you.

Best of luck!

Hi Angie-

Ya, I met with the surgeon at my first appointment. BUT it was an ALL day, 6 hour, appointment. He was my last stop. I guess that is just how my Dr. runs his office. How long have you been working on getting banded?

Hi I too am getting banded in Feb 2009 in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Here you go and listen at a seminar for about 2-3 hours then make an apt to see a surgeon and a dietitian then another for psychiatrist and then another pre-op apt with surgeon and dietitian then the operation all up 6 mths and that is with no insurance. Paying out of your own pocket.:( But all good

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
