Hi all... I am going for my first plastic surgery consult next week and I am starting to get nervous about showing my body!!!! I am interested in a Tummy Tuck and breast lift.

Congratulations on getting to this point.

During your consultation they will discuss your desired changes and expectations, review your medical history and current health, and make an assessment on whether the procedure(s) in question are right for you. This is a good time to ask specific questions about the procedure so that you are fully prepared, mentally and emotionally, for surgery. They will discuss the results that can be achieved, They will also go over the potential complications and secondary effects.

I consulted with 2 docs before my TT. In addition to what Shalee mentioned, I also had to stand naked in front of the docs as they grabbed the fat/skin on my stomach and told me how much they would remove. I also asked about a breast lift, and they moved my breast tissue around to demonstrate what I could expect as a result of the breast lift.

This is not a journey suitable for the overly modest.

However I now have a lovely smooth flat stomach, so it was completely worth it.

Yes I have to agree with Michee, having to stand there in front of the Dr's and showing them all wobbly bits was very hard to do. I have been to four consults with 3 different dr's and even tho the last one was with Dr # 1 again it was still just as hard as the first time. BUT in the end when I have my flat tummy it will have all been worth it.

Is there a list of questions we should be asking? I am not really sure as what to ask.

Michee...How much weight did they take off in tissue?

I did an internet search on "questions to ask a PS" I used the info to make up a list of 15 or so questions. However, I think the docs know that everyone asks the same stuff, because I didnt need to ask any of the questions. They were all answered as part of the docs explanation/consultation.

The doc removed about 4 pounds of skin. Doesnt sound like much, but it sure makes a big difference when it is all from the same place!

I just had my first and the doctor opened the front of the gown briefly to see if I had loose skin above my waist as well as below as it determined the type of procedure I would need. He also demonstrated how much loose skin on my upper arms might be removed (not all of it because of the skin on my forearms). I was totally covered for the rest of the consult when he drew diagrams of the procedures he would do and explained in great detail, options I might have, the surgery, recovery process, side effects, etc.

It helped to talk with the people who were sitting in the waiting room since most were post surgical and all were very friendly (they knew how nervous I might be) and all spoke very highly of the surgeon and very very happy.

I'm looking forward to the next step.

After my consults, I just had to book the surgery.

Once it was booked (deposit paid) I got a pre op from my GP and then went to the surgeons clinic 2 weeks prior to the surgery to drop off the paper work/lab results and pay the balance.

Good Luck Paddler, you are gonna be very happy with the results

Thanks for this thread, I just realized that my annual pap appointment was going to happen BEFORE my consult... I just switched it to be after so that if they need to run any specific tests I can get it done at that time. (they take my blood for Thyroid anyway) THANKS!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
