Crohns Disease And Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I have Crohn's Disease however I wasn't approved for any surgery because of "health risk" I don't know of any Dr in the states that is willing to perfrom WLS on a patient with Crohn's however, I have been in remission for 4-5years and I haven't taken in any meds in 10 years. What is your current state of health?

I do know a lady with Crohn's in Cali. I believe Dr Cirangle did her surgery. Dr Wetter did my initial surgery, also. He was one of the reasons I moved to Ca for 15 months, specifically to get banded.

I have had crohn's disease since 1989 and have had one ileal resection in 1993. I am 41 years old. I was banded in January 2004 and have not had an exaserbation of crohn's symptoms. I have moderate crohn's in my ileum based on a colonoscopy last month. I have gone from 343 lbs to 213 with my band. I have quite a bit of diarrhea but the band did not make it worse. I am still better off with the excess weight gone and my band doctor agrees. Most surgeons will not perform gastric bypass on a crohn's patient but many will band them. I am very happy with my decision to be banded.

Snuffy,

Thank You So Much For Your Information!! Im Glad To Hear There Are Others Out There With The Crohn's Disease Who Have Been Banded. I Have Researched The Lap Band For Over A Year Now And Personally From What I Have Researched It Seems That The Lap Band Would Actually Help Those Who Have Crohn's Disease. I Also Have Pcos, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Every Doctor I Have Gone To Has Always Told Me I Need To Lose Weight But Then They Also Follow It Up With The Usual Comment Of Between My Crohns And Pcos, The Odds Are Working Against Me To Lose It On My Own. I Hope That By Getting Banded, I Will Have The Chance To Get Healthy!!! Thanks :D

I also have PCOS and have still managed to lose 70% of my excess weight so far. I wish you luck with the band. It is one of the best decisions I have made.

I, have Crohn's Disease For over ten years now!I talked with two Surgen's who do Lapband surgery they said ( they would only do Lap Band nothing else ) Because the other two surgerys are to tuff of are systems...I take 4000MG of Pentasa every day Its a great drug for Crohns.

I would have loved to be banded but I was turned down By my Insurence company I did the Physiological Evaluation meet with the dietition schedule weight loss program and had my own doctor agree with it because my bmi was 40 at 310 pounds.

Witch I can say I, now weigh 227 today! Thank the Lord and all my friends here at LBT for there great support over the last 6 months also my wife kidds....Good luck on geting banded hope things work out! Do what ever it takes to lose the weight for a healther life for your self Most of all God bless.

PS hope that your Crohns Disease gets better/that you don't have any more problems with it! John

Hi. I am new to this, so I hope I am doing this right. I was banded May 23rd, 2005, and I also have crohn's disease. I had a complete workup prior, and my docs would not approve for gastric bypass, but because banding is reversable in the event the crohn's disease gets worse, my insurance and docs went ahead with it. I couldn't be happier. Got my 3rd fill today. I am up to 2ccs, and have lost 31 pounds. Good Luck !!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
