problem with banding 2 days ago

Recommended Posts

I just had lap band put in 2 days ago and still in hospital since they started me off with ice cubes and couldnt keep down the liquid, not even my own spit would go down; so after 3 endoscopies they put a tube down to my stomach so it would give in more space and give more time for swelling to go down, have you heard of this before, and will it help ?

No, but can you swallow now? If so, then it's helping! Sounds simplistic but that's how you can tell. You are swelling from the surgery and it will take a while for it to calm down. So if the tube allows you to remain hydrated, its doing its job.

Thanks for the answer, but so far I am not even swallowing anything and the solution was to put this tube into my stomach wjth only the function to reñease pressure and make space for the swelling.

Have indeed heard of this .... I'm 4 days post op #2 .... First time was too tight and experienced your exact symptoms and beyond .... required a total of 5 liters IV in two days to stay hydrated .... Went under surgery again to have addition tissue disected ... all is well now. Except a residual mental thing about not getting enough Water and liquids. Baby sips from a guy who wants to chug a gallon of cold ass water just ain't manly!!!

I have now done surgery #2, and Dr. asked me to trust him on this one, and seems to have worked, the only thing is that it seems like it was an open surgery because I have about a 6 inch scar. BUt now everything is normal and I cannot feel any restriction at all, except filling up quickly. How have you felt ?

I know how you feel, and I have been following directions of not overdrinking, especially after a day nightmare of total restriction and being worried of what I had done to myself. But I am 5 days postop and back to work 2 days ago, and I feel much better now with a positive attitude. My surgery was performed in Puert Vallarta Mexico.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
