Do you give yourself calorie credit for exercise?

Recommended Posts

Let's say your calorie goal is 1200 calories. Do you add calories to account for what you've burned off from exercise?

I worry that I actually might not be getting enough calories because of my exercise. My surgeon wasn't ever very specific about that detail.

What do you guys do?

Hi! First of all you look great!

Now for the exercise thing. I do give myself credit. I log it along with my food on thedailyplate.com. I wasn't doing it for a while and as a result I don't think I was eating enough food to allot the exercise I was doing. I upped my calories a bit (to adjust) and I finally broke through the plateau. I was pretty much running on empty.

Thank you for the compliment. I am feeling great. That's why I'm trying not to obsess about my weight loss right now. I do think I may be on the low side of calories. I'm trying to increase by a bit, we'll see how that works out.

I too use thedailyplate and it accounts for my exercise. You may not need to add each and every calorie back that you exercise off, but you must ass some or you will start burning muscle.

Now that was a funny typo.

LOL! I guess maybe I should proofread before hitting send :-)

Thank you so much for asking this. It was one of those questions I was afraid to ask my surgeon, because I didn't want him to think that I was trying to eat more than I should! LOL! How ridiculous is that kind of thinking?

Anyways . . . I made myself a compromise, because on days when I work out super super hard, I noticed I was - naturally - eating more calories. I'm perfectly fine with 1200 calories a day . . . but my weight loss has slowed considerably. I'm stuck at -49 (214) and I'm DYING to get to -50.

I am going to try adding in 1/4 - 1/2 of the calories I burn in exercise and see how it goes. I am hesitant to add the whole thing, because I think thedailyplate.com is a little bit generous with how many calories it says I am actually burning. haha!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
