Hi all,

I'd like to say hi and express my joy and gratitude for this group.

I'll be banded on the 19th and I think I will need some support. I am an introverted person and it's hard for me to ask for help but I think I will need friends who understands, need to share feelings and thoughts.

Now I am pondering if I will tell people about the surgery or not. I would like to keep this private, but I don't want to tell a lie when people ask me how I am losing weight. I thought about saying something like..."less food and more exercise",... which is true, but I would like to hear from you, your experiences and thoughts about this.

Thanks

nan.utah

Nan,

That's exactly how I handle it. And it's 100% true. I'm running three miles a day and I try to only eat healthy things. However, if it's someone that I know has tried losing weight on their own or has issues with food, I like to tell them about the surgery. I figure this surgery has helped me so much, why not tell others it exists. It might change their life too!! :tt2:

Good luck!!

BTW, I live in Utah as well. Where are you from and who was your surgeon?

The weight for me, has been pretty slow coming off. Average is 2 lbs. per week so it's not that noticable. Those people whom I have not seen for a long time do notice, but not those on a daily basis. I do the same though if/when anyone asks....I'M DIETING! I was banded July 3rd and just had my 3rd fill last Friday. That's the first restriction I;ve felt so far. I don't feel like I'm there yet though. I'm also from Utah. Where did you have your surgery? I had mine at So Valley by Dr. Alldredge.

Thanks for replying. I really appreciate having the chance to talk about it with people who also made the same decision about lap band. I live in Provo and I will have my surgery in Tijuana, Mexico, on the 19th, with Dr Kuri. I am both excited and scared about the surgery.

Nan,

I live in Provo too! I'm always looking for gym buddy or someone to go to the Provo High Track with. If you ever need workout support, I'd be happy to meet you there! :) It's always good to keep motivated! BTW, I have a gold's membership.

I, like Moo, had my surgery done with Dr Aldredge. His nurses are awesome. I've heard from other people that he will do fills on people that had the surgery in Mexico. I would be worried about fills if I got my surgery in Mexcio. I seriously am up in Dr Aldredge's office at least once a month for fills or unfills. It takes a while to find the right fill level.

This band is an adventure that's for sure. :cool2:

Hi Jeepgal and Moo,

I'd love to have gym buddies! I've never been to the Provo High track - would like to try it. I have 24h fitness membership, and... I confess... sometimes I go there just for the pool, jacuzzi and sauna.... without burning many calories:-) But I like walking and plan starting tennis classes.

I am trying to find places in Utah for fills. I know there's a place in Salt Lake called Fill Center USA. It seems they charge $349 first fill and $165 thereafter. Is it the average range of price? Dr Kuri provides free fills for life but he's in Tijuana.

Hello in Utah:

That is how I am handling it too. My friends, family, and co-workers do not know what I am planning to do. I want to wait. I just have this fear that something will happen...like failing or the procedure is not approved....I just don't want to involve anyone in this. So I totaly know how you feel. :-)

Nan,

Here is Dr Aldredge's number 801-571-9511. I have no idea how much fills cost if you did not get the surgery in their office.

I get fills/unfills free for the first year and I think it's $225 or something close to that for every year after. I think you can pay for an individual fill, but I'd rather just pay for the year and know I can bother them at any time. LoL :tongue2:

What's your work schedule like? I'm a morning person, but I could meet up at the track after 5pm. I haven't been to the gym or anything in a week. I feel SUPER lazy. LoL

The address to Provo High School is 1125 N University Parkway. The track is located on the North West side of the school and there is also parking on the West side of the track.

I'm excited! What days/time did you have in mind? I usually leave my house around 6am. This puts me at the track at about 6:15ish.

Hi JeepGal,

I am thinking about walking outside at least 3 times a week, like... Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I also plan to go to the gym, swimming, and trying new things. How often do you walk on the track? Are you walking this Friday?

My surgery is next week! I am very commited to make changes in my life style. To change quantity for quality.

Nan

Hi JeepGal,

Thanks for inviting me to walk. I loved it. It's so much more fun when we have a work out buddy! Thanks for the support regarding lap band. I feel more confident now and less scared about my surgery next week. I hope I can have a quick recovery so we can have more walkings.

Hi JeepGal,

I'm banded!!!!! Everything was great - no problems, only a little pain on my left shoulder for some days.

I'm on full liquid diet now. I'll contact you soon to walk with you again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
