Elizabeth- He was friendly, but he gave me hell for not going to the support group meeting in January, even though I tried to explain that I didn't get off work in Athens until almost 6pm that night! He basically said that was an excuse?! :) I have had to leave work early for all the other meetings and I just can't do that right now because we see so many more patients this time of year! As I've said before, the time of the meetings is pretty inconvenient for me but I've managed to make my six, which is better than some.... I didn't lose as much as I wanted, but I still lost 6 lbs, so he wasn't too hard on me for that. I got another 1cc added. I hope this is it!!!

Froggi hasn't been on here in well over a month. I don't have any idea what happened to her! I know that she was pretty discouraged because she wasn't losing too much.

Thats wrong that he acts that way. He asked me once about exercise and I tried to tell him that I messed up my knee and it was swollen and all that crap, it is still messed up but Im exercising now, he just said, "So, you're not exercising" I just want to say "WOULD YOU LISTEN TO ME??"

Jeanie said that this is his way of motivating people. He needs to learn something about motivation. Lets see how he feels when someone is constently getting onto him and telling him he is a failure and stuff like that when it comes to him doing surgery, see if that motivates him. Get real.

I havent heard anything from her and I havent seen her at any support group meetings. My friend who had hers done in March, or was it may, she was the first, has only been to 2 meetings so far. Wonder what happens if you dont go to your required meetings. I have been going to them every month since October I think if not sooner so I should be good on my meetings. I wont dare tell him Im not going this month though not if he gets all nasty about it. I dont need this next one. It is for couples, Im as single as they come.

BTW.. CONGRATS on the 6 pounds

Hi Gang, I also had an appointment yesterday, it had been 2 months since my last fill, had 1 1/2cc put in in dec and had to go back the next day and have 1/2cc taken out..yesterday I had 1 cc put in for a total of 4 cc's so far. Kaplan seemed cranky and in a big hurry yesterday....I was told he would be expecting me at the feb 23rd support group....so guess I'll leave work alittle early and go....I haven't been able to go to Zumba due to my work schedule. Lost another 8 pounds....not as much as I thought but ok. I have went from a size 22 to a size 18 though. He says my port is alittle tilted and it hurt during the fill today. Well...hope to see you all on the 23rd....Theresa

Hello Theresa. Good job on the weight loss and the size change . He can be such a grouch. He gets onto me telling me how important it is to be at the meetings and blah blah blah. I want to look at him and say, "You know, if you look at my records, you would see that I am there monthly." I know people who dont go at all and he has never gotten onto them, but then those people are not doing well with weight loss either...hmmm maybe there is a method to his madness.. I dunno. I think he needs to tone it down a bit. He is trying to be "motivational" but like I said before, he needs to learn a little about motivation. I go tomorrow and Im getting more scared the closer it gets. I think the shrink will be at the next meeting talking about marriage. I doubt I will go because like I said, Im as single as they get.

Congrats on the loss, Theresa! He was cranky yesterday, and rushed. Jeannie wasn't overly friendly, either. They were running late, so maybe that was it? I can't be sure I'll be at the meeting. Keeping my job is most important....

I'm getting kinda discouraged myself

Three weeks ago Jeanne submitted me to insurance. They sent it back asking for more information. Last week they submitted both me & my hubby and now insurance says they still don't have the information they need. And I can never seem to get anyone at his office to call me back. I'm getting kinda frustrated. I hate to be a nag and keep pushing and pushing, but I feel like my life is on hold right now.

What more info do they need? Dont worry about being a nag. I would keep calling unto you get some answers. Sounds like your insurance is being a pain also.

Brian has been the one calling insurance for us. The first time I was "sent back" to Dr. Kaplan was because they needed a two-year weight history. Now they're saying they need my blood work. I thought those would have been standard things they sent. I just don't know??

Jennifer- It took me almost a month to get approved, because the correct stuff was not sent in the first time. I have a problem getting ahold of anyone at the office, too. Just keep calling them everyday until you get your questions answered. It's your life their putting on hold, so it's worth making a pain of yourself. After all, they're getting a heck of alot of money out of you and your husband!!! ($36000 if you were cash patients!!!!) Keep your head up. I know how discouraging it is!

Elizabeth- Good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes. I didn't realize he was doing fills on other days than Mondays. That's good to know!

Kaplan mentioned doing fills on wednesdays too....I have been pretty miserable since my fill yesterday...even with just liquids I feel like they stay in my throat.....I am trying to stick it out though...last time I had a fill they had to take some back out cause I couldn't even swallow my own spit, he said it was swelling from the fill and could I hold out another day and I was like NO....My belly is still very sore from yesterdays visit...but I am sure tomorrow will be better!! I tell you one thing....this has been alot harder than I thought it would be....hard not to get discouraged sometimes...I'll be glad when spring is here, good weather and garage sales always make me happy!! Elizabeth...keep me updated on how your appointment goes.

Good Luck today Elizabeth!!

The surgery is $36K without insurance! Good heavens!!! How would anyone afford this without some sort of insurance. That's ridiculous. I was figuring it was around $15.

It's 18000 without insurance. That's the figure I was given at my seminar a year ago. Both Jennifer and her husband are having it done. That's where the 36000 came from.

I know if I didn't have insurance I couldn't have done it!

Unreal. Its sad it costs that much.... Its such a great change/benefit for people and many cannot afford it.

What is Dr. Kaplan's website? I know it was posted on here before but I cant find it.

Theresa- I get pretty discouraged, too. I know the weight is coming off, just not too fast. Winter is a bad time. I can't wait till I can get outside and start running! My goal is to run a complete 5k (not walk!) by fall. He wanted to put 1.5cc in on Monday and I talked him down to 1 because I had to have 1/2cc taken out a couple fills ago. I think it's working. I was busy last night and didn't have time to eat dinner. By the time I realized it, it was 8:30 and I was scared to death to eat because of the abdominal pain I get if I eat too close to bedtime, so I went without. The good thing is, I actually wasn't even hungry. So, maybe something is finally working!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
