Fills while standing

Recommended Posts

My doctor has me stand up while he does my fills. He's never missed and it takes 2 minutes to complete the procedure. He says this helps with equilibrium and with complications after? Has anyone else heard of this? I know it sounds like a silly question, but I'm wondering if it makes a difference as far as restriction, etc.

i have never heard of this. My doctor used to have us lay down but now that he has us do the x-rays while getting a fill, we stand. I think it's easier for them to get to the port when you are standing up.

My doctor has me start out by lying down. Then he accesses the port. After he has the needle in, I have to stand up in front of the flouro machine. Then I drink the barium and he looks at the picture to make sure everything is ok. Then he does the fill while I am still standing. It feels really weird to get up and stand with a needle in your stomach!

My doctors office uses a chair, first they lay you down, then they sit you up. They use flouro everytime and the barium, it seems to work pretty well. I haven't had a fill that wasn't enough or too much. I'm losing and not uncomfortable!

Now I want a standing fill in front of a fluroscopy! My first fill was laying down.

Can't wait for the 2nd fill, but it is not scheduled for a little more than 3 weeks from now.

"Now I want a standing fill in front of a fluroscopy!"

It's really neat because you get to actually see your band and watch the barum go through.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
