Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet on Thursday, so today is day 6. It was hardest on day 2.

Mine is:

2 protien shakes (atkins or myocel)

2 meals of lean meat (6-8oz)+ "all you can eat" green veggies

1 cup of fruit

per day.

I've lost a pound per day, so far....

I've been drinking lots of Water, caffiene free/unsweetened tea, and a few sugar free drink mixes.

I tried the special K protien Water pink lemonade, and it is OK. I drank it while working outside over the weekend...to keep up my energy.

Oh, and I keep a box of chicken stock in the fridge to ward off hunger. I just zap a bit in a mug and drink it. It's fat free/sugar free/carb free....and has a bit of protien.

The big news is I broke my arm on Saturday! Ugh This really stinks. I was vacuuming our stairs when the vacuum slipped, I went to grab it, and ended up falling backwards down the stairs with the vacuum. I have a splint and sling for 2 weeks!

I am suppose to start my pre-op diet on Sept. 10th but it is starting tonight. I had my last "bad" lunch. :blushing:

I am going to try and do liquids as much as possible. My pre-op diet from the doctor is low carb high Protein but I want to get used to a liquid only diet since I have to do one for 3 weeks my procedure.

I bought a big thing of Protein powder today at Walmart. I also discovered that they have a store brand called Great Value that tastes just like Crystal Light. And, it is only 1.50 a package!! Woot!:)

Well I had my Stress EKG and Heart Ultrasound, it was cool to see your heart beating.

I failed my EKG. Looks as though I have had, at one time, a heart attack. I don't know where I stand, but this might put an end to my Quest. I have to call and see my Dr and take him the "magic readout". I guess there are some Cardiac Blood tests I need to have.

I will update later.

Good luck to you Debbie!!! I hope it all works out for you. I completed day 14 of my 23 day pre-op diet today and I do drink 2 Protein Shakes a day. It has not been nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think it has helped to get me away from some of my bad habits and ready for the post-op diet that I will be on. I'm not saying it has been easy, or that there were not times that I've been hungry, but I've done it and I feel positive that I can do the post-op liquid diet and then eat what I am supposed to in order to become the healthy person that I want to be. I've also found some foods and strategies that I know work for me and will have these tools ready to use after my surgery. Good luck to you all!!!!! Hang in there Debbie. Keep us posted. Becky

That's my only fear... having had no pre op diet, I'm worried I won't be able to stick to the liquids, and then mushies.

Debbie, I'll say a prayer it doesn't slow down your surgery. When will you know something?

debbie, I'm very sorry to hear that your surgery is up in the air now, and that you have signs of having had a heart attack. Thank goodness that it's been uncovered, so that you can get the medical treatment you might need for a healthy heart. I hope you will still be able to get your band.

:hurray:In less than 24 hours, I'll be bandster!! I'm strangely calm, and mostly excited.

----------------------

terilynn, my pre-op diet was very doable. I've posted it on here, but if you'd like to do for your peace of mind, let me know. I'd be happy to send it to you. I think it was day two that I felt hungry, but it wasn't "starving hungry", it was very manageable, and after that, I felt satisfied most all the time.

I completely agree. I think this is preparing me for the future of a new way of life with food.

Also, I have 6 more days until surgery. Starting today I am going to chew chew chew my food to prepare myself for that as well. I think this might just be the key that I need.

hey guys...i am on 4th day of my preop diet...plus i am PMS'n sooo bad...i went to do my pre-op registration yesterday. i had to pee in a cup, have 9 tubes of blood drawn, my ekg, plus a chest xray...

the radiologist made me so mad (i know she was doing her job, it was the way she spoke to me)...she asked if there was any chance i could be pregnant...and i said "well...i don't take birth control, but i have fertility issues, and i am supposed to start any day, so i would guess that i am not"

and she said, "well, i need a definite no before i can do the test..."

so i reminded her they just made me pee in a cup plus did bloodwork, test it and see...and agian she was like "well, i need a definite no before i can do the xray, and it will take days to get the results back on your labs..."

i said, "you mean yall don't have a dipsick you can put in the urine and do a pregnancy test in the hospital? (which i know they do, cause i work at a facilty owned by the same company) she said no. and stared at me like i was an idiot....so i told her, she was not getting a definite "no, i am not pregnant to come out of my mouth"

so they said they would have to wait and do the chest xray the morning of the surgery....;)

people, i am the most passive person in the world, but my head rotated on my shoulders....i guess the PMS, stress of the upcoming surgery, and this liquid diet is a bad combination for ultimate moodiness...hehe!!!

Oh Nay...I feel your pain. I too had PMS during my first days of pre-op diet. It wasn't a good combination for me either.

I would have had the same reaction to the tech....fertility issues really bring out the "B" in me!

Hey nayray. Frustrating!!! I am glad that your story did not end up with having to make bail... just kidding!! It sounds to me like that radiologist needs a vacation... or further customer relations training...or a new job. I would let someone know the way you were treated. Most of us have jobs where we deal with others... and some days you just don't feel like dealing with others... BUT... you smile and treat people the way you are supposed to.. my mom used to say "fake it till you make it". Good luck to you... don't let the turkeys get ya down!!! Becky

Hello,

I haven't posted much because I was waiting for my date....well I have it! Sept 12th!! WOOT! I am so excited. Not so excited about the pre-op liquid diet I had to start today until the 12th, 10 days of liquids only! blek! Exactly how small can a liver get anyway! LOL. But I am doing it, like I said it's the first day so it's not killing me yet. I went out with my son and best friend last night and had my "last supper" Sirloin tips, mashed potatoes, fresh baked rolls, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, and like 6 Coca-colas.....my favorite. No more of that.....major bumming, but I'd rather lose weight than drink Coke! I would love to put a ticker on my signature but I don't know how.......I'll keep trying......I want everyone to see my progress in the future.

Have a great day!

Jodie :crying:

Hey Gang! I am so glad I found this thread it looks like we are all in the same boat heading in the same direction and at the same spot. I love that!! I am on Day 8 of my liquids and happy to report I lost the 12 pounds I gained from my Last Supper Syndrome so I really hope I lose 10 more to show my doctor I had some weight loss. I weigh the exact same I did when I was last weighed in. My surgery is next Weds. 9/10/08 at 9:30 at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital with Dr. Kelly Francis.

I do have a tip in regards to broth. I love the Swansons chicken broth 33% less sodium with Lemon Pepper, Crushed Red Pepper (pizza pepper) and half a lime or lemon juice. YUMMY!!! If you don't have lemons or limes you could use the mexican seasoning they put on fruit that tangy, sour salt stuff. Great!!:crying:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
