Hello everyone, I am new to this site so let me introduce myself. My name is Ashleigh, I got my surgery on 4/2/08. I have neen doing well so far. I am kind of stuck in a rut this past 5 weeks or so going back and forth 7 pounds or so, and lost nothing. My question is what is everyones diet like? Do you truely eat 1/4 cup (2 oz) of food for a meal? I can eat about twice that, two times a day. Is it that I am just not filled enough or have I streched my pouch? or have a slipped band! How do you know, are there any ways to tell other than a x ray? I am always paranoid about the potential problems. I worry if the band is too tight I will get sick and get nothing down. I know it is alot of questions. Well thanks and nice to be here.

Well, no...you sound pretty normal except that eating 4oz twice a day doesn't sound like enough nourishment?!

I'd suggest tracking your food intake on Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate for awhile to check your calories.

I think if you spend some time here at LBT and just read thru all the many forums you'll get answers to all your questions as you read about the experiences of others. So, grab some coffee and get comfy...and read, read read!!

To be honest, Ashleigh, you aren't eating nearly enough food. I eat about a cup of food 3 times a day and drink skim milk between meals. You should be consuming between 1000-1200 calories a day. Your body probably thinks you are starving it and it has adjusted to almost no calories. If you start eating more, your metabolism will speed up. Check into it. Good Luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
