Hey guys don't you see it, why would Republicans discuss the issues they don't have to? They are pulling ahead with smear tactics and negative campaigning. The McCain manager was right in saying "The election isn't about issues". I personally find that sad (but true). Your average swing voter probably doesn't get caught up in issues but rather popularity.

As annoying as it may be the Republicans keeping Palin in a bubble is working for them so they are going to keep it up as long as possible. Ted Koppel was on NPR yesterday and I think made a good point in saying that Charlie Gibson will not be able to win with this interview. If he asks tough questions then the spin goes back to the "mean sexist media" and if he is soft on her she comes off unharmed and still popular and he will get slack for being soft.

I think next week the McCain camp might bust out an "I know you are but what am I" or an "I'm rubber your glue...":tt2:

I do know how throwing a bomb makes people react, I have been watching it for two days of lipsticks on a pig.

So you believe it was deliberate -- a bomb?

I don't think it was a bomb. I think both McCain and Obama are media zombies by now and they give so many speeches and don't have time to think about all the ways anything they say can and will be spun by the other side. The audience may have taken the comment one way but I don't think he intended for that to happen (he had nothing to gain by saying it about her as it would just create the attention for her he doesn't need). She is getting tons of sympathy votes from women who think the big boys are being mean. I'd like to see her step up her game and play from the guys tees and win for that reason and not why she is winning now.

Again, I disagree. I watched it several times from start to finish. He was very methodical in trying to pull the analogy out of his head, after quoting the cartoon he quoted. And he was buoyed by the audience's chant, going into the fish analogy next. But none of us can get into his head and be sure about his intentions, can we?

I just watched a few clips of Palin's interview with Charlie Gibson. I think she did quite well. I know there are people here who were hoping she would fall on her face; I think you're going to be sorely disappointed with this interview (and future interviews as well), if that's your hope.

re: "play from the guys tees and win for that reason and not why she is winning now."

Interesting perspective. Smart active woman, executive career, etc etc. Exactly what the feminist chant the past 40 years has been.

Except she is 'diverse' from the party line in her beliefs and isn't a liberal democrat.

 Amen, Jack. The day she was nominated, I said to my dh (through tears), "It's a good day to be a woman in America." Sadly, since then, with the sexist attacks abounding, the tone is definitely different.

In the early 1990's I was asked, by an organization I worked with, to run for US Congress. I quickly declined. While I would have love the opportunity to serve, I was very leary of the election process: I did not want my past sins and failures broadcast for all to see.

It takes a very strong woman to do what she is doing. That is not meant to belittle men who do this, because they are indeed attacked, too. But the attacks on this woman are, IMO, distinctly worse than what they've said of most men. To photoshop pictures of her in a bikini holding a rifle, to diminish her choice not to abort her children (especially her special needs child), to attack her 17YO daughter, to make political statements about her uterus and breastfeeding, and all of the other things, is just sick. Challenge her on the issues -- fine! But debase her personally because you don't like her stand on the issues? That's another matter entirely.

I know it is comparing apples and oranges but I can't help thinking about this whole McCain voting with Bush 90% of the time...

Isn't it said that we share like 98% DNA with chimps? Look at what a difference 2% makes.

Maybe that 10% makes a bigger difference than people think.

I haven't been this excited about a presidential race until mccain picked palin! I think she is amazing and I might not agree with everything she believes but I haven't met one person that I do.. But overall I believe this is the best ticket!

I think it's sad when I hear women say "Oh it's so nice he picked a woman". It's for that very reason he picked her, to get the female vote. Aren't you the least bit angry that the whole reason McCain picked HER is because he thinks women will vote for McCain solely based on the fact that his running mate is a woman! It really pisses me off that the republican party thinks I would be so shallow or blind to vote solely on gender and not on the issues at hand.

Kinda like African Americans voting for him just because he is black.

Sad to say - some women will vote for her just cuz she's a woman - Some Afro America's will vote for Barack cuz he's black - Some men will vote for Barack just cuz they are more sexist than racist - Some repbulican's will vote for McCain just cuz they are Republican - Dem's the same way -

Then we have the pple who just don't vote.

Hell, from what I have heard women vote for JFK just cuz they thought he was handsome

That's the world - whadda ya going to do - No wonder we are in such a sad state... Look at some of the pple doing the voting based on looks - on color or gender..

Although we may not always agree on politics, I do share your some of your sentiments.

It really pisses me off when people think I'm voting for the McCain/Palin ticket because she's a woman! Her gender is inconsequential. As is Obama's color, McCain's age, and Biden's . . . well, Biden's just plain inconsequential all by himself

(for those of you about to get huffy, that was a JOKE)

see, and now i just assumed you were voting for her cause you really liked her hair....???:wink2:

KYbandchick - i don't think she (palin) has any significant advantage from the big boys being mean, certainly not from the women i interract with who are either for or against her politics. in fact i find my conservative friends more critical of her than my liberal ones - they like the fight she has & no matter how you look at it - it's a good moment for women in politics ... all be it not my fan favorite.

little unfair w/the golf comment - might hurt some men here reading; since i can kill my hubby w/my drive....putting; another story:rolleyes:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
