Excess Skin

On having PS befoer goal weight... I'd like to add that the difference in my body within the last 20lbs was unreal.

chickie, with all due respect.. all i'm saying is that some "can" tell early on they'll need PS to deal w/skin issues. personally, don't care when someone does it; if you read the PS threads MANY get into "tuck mode" well before goal. should i have needed PS, i would have been in consultation mode now & worked out those last lbs, as you say - i agree really make a difference.

the OP wondered if those who have to lose 90-100lbs "would" need to deal with skin issues - ie PS. i thought i gave a good answer - which was a flip of the coin.

PS - like the new avtr.

There was *no* way I could have known what my skin would look like at 107 lbs when I was 297. No way at all. Yeah I knew I would need something, but not exactly what and where.

And there was no way to know just how bad it was till I was there.

Just repeating this because it appears to have been lost.

um nope - not lost w/me because i stated MY intention to have PS, would be when i was at goal, should that be needed. it's not.

as stated - i have ZERO vested interest in who does it; to say that you have to be at goal to do so - well; there are others in the PS forum that have not followed suit.

challenged those there - not me saying some may not have to have it done.

I'd have to echo Chickie, the difference in your body with the last 20 lb or so (when you're talking about a goal weight with a BMI in the low 20's that is) is MORE than with the first 60, honestly. I've changed so much in the last year or so and barely lost more than about 15lb. If you're the kind that wants to pick a BMI goal weight of 27, 28, 30, then that really doesnt apply quite so much.

The biggest difference was boobs. I had boobs 20lb ago, now I dont, lol. They just suddenly deflated totally. I *do* have loose skin there, but I always did, its no surprise to me. Those are getting done. But its a totally different type of job now than it was 20lb ago. I can see now that I need a lift but also a small implant to fill in the empty skin. I have breastfed 3 babies for a total of over six years though, so that has a lot to do with it, they were ruined before I lost any weight. They were big and saggy before, now they're like tennis balls in a footy sock.

Being pear shaped is a big bonus in the weight loss game though. Pear shaped people like me who never carried weight on the stomach anyway tend to escape quite well from the Tummy Tuck, but then again, my bum has dropped and looks a bit sad.

I'm the opposite of Jacqui, I carried most of my weight in my tummy and torso and still carry most of the last 20 pounds I want to lose there. Do I NEED plastic surgery? No. I had a PS consult early this year and the cost ($20,000 Australian for a lower body lift) just wasn't worth it, it was purely cosmetic and vanity driven for me. I don't wear tight figure hugging clothes because I have a few lumps and bumps, but I don't know that I would if I was smooth anyway. I don't have loose skin as such, but I could use a little tightening all over to be perfect (but then, who is perfect??). I guess the best way to put it is that while some weight loss leaves a person looking like a fully deflated balloon, I'd probably be at about only 10-15% deflated. I got out of this as one of the lucky ones I think.

Weight gain/loss take different tolls on our bodies and each journey is SO unique, it would be SO hard to even fathom a guess at what some body's body will look like after a massive loss.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
