Five Days Until I'm Banded!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I'm getting banded on August 25 in Houston. My Doc is Dr. Spivak and I'm doing self pay. I'm excited about the prospect of being thin. I say "prospect" because I know that the band isn't a cure all. It's going to be some hard work to get where I want to be. Any advice you could give me would be helpful. Thanks.

Congrats!! I know that you are excited. I would say just go in calm, the surgery is not bad at all. I don't know if your hospital will supply this or not, but make sure that you have a pillow to put across your tummy. You'll need this when you get in and out of the car and I know that I sleep with mine on my tummy. I also use it when I have to sneeze or walk with the first few days after surgery. It helps a lot. I had my surgery on the 11th and I still use my pillow. The way our desks are at work my stomach may rub on the desk so I use it there too.

Make sure that you just relax after surgery, I found it comfortable to sleep on the couch. Also make sure that you have loose and comfortable clothes to wear, you don't want nothing to tight on your belly.

Make sure to get all your Proteins after surgery. I know that at first I didn’t get all mine in because I wasn’t hungry, and didn’t feel like drinking that shake, but try to get them in.

Also try to walk as much as possible I know at first you're not going to feel like it but it helps.

Everything will be fine, soon you'll be on your way to a new you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
