One of the books I'm reading covered this.. Here's what I found online to quote:

An increase in headaches during the first trimester is believed to be caused by the surge of hormones along with an increase in the blood volume circulating throughout your body. These headaches may be further aggravated by stress, poor posture or changes in your vision. Other causes of headaches during pregnancy may involve one or more of the following:

Lack of sleep

Low blood sugar

Dehydration

Caffeine withdrawal

Stress (too many changes)

The best way to deal with headaches is to avoid them altogether. Avoiding tension headaches is easiest when you follow these tips:

Practice good posture

Get plenty of rest and relaxation

Exercise

Eat well-balanced meals

If you are not able to prevent headaches, there are still things that you can do to help them go away. During pregnancy, you want to try and relieve your headache by natural means if possible. Pain relief medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen are not recommended in most pregnancies; however, acetaminophen may be reccommended by your health care provider.

You may want to try to relieve your headache with one or more of the following natural remedies:

If you have a sinus headache, apply a warm compress around your eyes and nose

If you have a tension headache, apply a cold compress or ice pack at the base of your neck

Maintain your blood sugar by eating smaller, more frequent meals. This may also help prevent future headaches

Get a massage. Massaging your shoulders and neck is an effective way to relieve pain

Rest in a dark room and practice deep breathing

Take a warm shower or bath

You may also reduce the likelihood of migraine headaches by avoiding common triggers of Migraine headaches. Potential triggers include:

chocolate

Alcohol

Yogurt

Aged cheese

Peanuts

Breads with fresh yeast

Preserved meats

Sour cream

Okay...sorry, but I have a strange sense of humor. I'm not pregnant, but was reading this because my DD gets a lot of headaches. I enjoyed the quote and there was a lot of information I didnt' know...but I particularly got a kick out of the following line:

"The best way to deal with headaches is to avoid them altogether."

That one had me laughing out loud...

Hah, I had responded to this earlier then the board died.

I was just quoting!

But from personal experience, chocolate=helps headache for me.. and I've never exercised to 'fix' any pains.

You're fairly early along so there's not a lot of risk yet, but I would check your blood pressure just to be sure. I had bad headaches BUT it was last trimester and I was mildly pre-eclamptic - but again, that didnt start till 35 weeks or so so dont panic.

When I was pregnant with Eliza I developed a really bad headache that gradually worsened over two weeks, I was only about 9 or 10 weeks along, bit of a worry, but it turned out to be a sinus infection.

FF - i know you quoted.. just thought the avoid the headache was funny... one thing that does take a little of the edge off is caffeine... which i can have a little of ...

jachut - my BP last appt was 110/66 so no problems there. thats definitely something i will be looking for though.

I always get some terrible Migraines whenever my hormones are affected. (menstrual cycle or pregnancy included) Since I can't take my Migraine meds during pregnancy, my doctor said that a cup of coffee once in a while is fine and the caffeine will help get rid of the headache.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
