For starters, it depends on what you do, and do you usually recover quickly from surgery/anesthesia, or not?

I was back up and around in 3 days and never needed post op pain meds except some tylenol; just read about a poster who was nauseated, stayed in bed and got blood clots.

Your best bet is to ask your surgeon or his staff what is average for his practice!

At the time of my surgery I was a server in a restaurant and had a lot of physical duties. I was back to work in 3 weeks.

Thanks for the advice. I have been told by a doctor that if I have the surgery on Friday. I could return to work on monday, but not so sure about that. I am an office administrator (very demanding and stressfull). I have 14 steps to climb several times a day due to my office being up stairs. This will help me make my decision.

Carrie I'm a nursing student and besides the school. I have clinicals where I am in the hospital giving care. I'm getting banded 8/29 and returning to school 9/2. (my 1st surgery couldn't be completed...don't know if I posted that...liver too fat)

Of course you may take as much time off as you want! After sitting home after my 1st attempt, I think I'm going to find the liquid diet much easier if I'm busy away from the house.

During my initial visit with the surgeon they suggest 10-12 weeks without lifting greater than 40 pounds. They explained this was to ensure that your port was set and would not flip. I do a lot of lifting in my job and I will have 100% STD for 12 weeks, so I will do what he recommends. If I work it right I may get the holidays off (no surgery date yet) that would be a first!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
