What were your out of pocket expenses?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm a newbie. This question has probably been answered many times so I do apologize, but outside of Insurance (my insurance will cover the surgery) what were some of your estimated out of pocket expenses? I have BC/BS of Oregon through for state employees with a ded. of $1000 that hasnt been met yet, so I was just trying to get an estimate.

Thanks!!

-Rachel

PCP co-pay: $80 (spread across two visits)

i didn't have any co-pays or OOP for my esophagrams, surgical consults, pre-op testing (ekg, bloodwork, chest xray).

I have tricare and had no copays. I did have an out of pocket expense of 1200 though for what the surgeon's office called "admin fees" it also included my Protein Shake mix ...200 dollars for that.

I have so far paid around $1400 so far. I have insurance coverage that pays 90% after a $300 deductible. With a max of $2000 per year I will have to pay out of pocket. However, there are things not covered for expample nutrition consults, copays for office visits, etc...

Things I've bought that ins didn't cover....lots of Protein Shakes for my preop diet (and baked fish and chicken)...but that cost way less per week than I was spending on groceries. I'll buy my surgeon's chewable vitamins and Protein Powder (probably about $100 for 3 months if I remember right)....and I splurged $40 on a mini food processor for when I'm doing mushies. Will save me dragging out the big one, and it was pink and too cute to pass up! LOL

Otherwise, nothing. Is that what you meant? My ins has covered everything else, subject to it's deductible, copay etc.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
