Well, you have alot of options. There are the regular extracts that you can get in the spice section of the grocery, and there are DaVinci sugar free syrups in a zillion flavors. I like a little extra vanilla flavor and mix it in with baking spices like apple pie spice. I sometimes add Splenda if I need a little sweetness.

Another thing you might want to try especially if you are getting tired of shakes, is a New whey Protein Bullet. It's kind of like liquid Jello in consistency. Now some folks can drink it straight, but I have to mix mine in with my Crystal Light. I love the fruit punch in all of my crystal light flavors. You can get them at GNC and some other brand sometimes at Walmart. Be careful if you get the 42g Protein bullet because you should only consume 20-25 g at a time. Your body will not absorb more at once, so no sense spending money on protein that you won't use.

Kristy - I add blueberries, Fiber and 1 TB no-sugar-added Peanut Butter, then blend furiously.

And not to hijack your thread, Kristy, but Lanakilia - You've said the same thing in other threads, about the body only being able to absorb a certain amount of Protein at a time. Not that I don't believe you, but could you tell me where you got that fact?

Cheers,

Lisa

Moooommmmmm...Lisa's pickin' on me! Just kidding

Actually, aside from my nutritionist and a dietician friend I also asked a peer at the university. The pharmaceutical kineticist said that unless you have an endurance metabolism (marathoner, triathlete, long-distance stuff) then Protein absorption is time limited. They also said that calories from "left over" protein are still calories so it would be better to consume veggies in place of the "extra" protein. The nutritionist said 20g at a time, the dietician 25g. The kineticist said probably 30-35 since we are morbidly obese, but that he couldn't find any academic journal articles specific to protein absorption in WLS patients to support his guess.

I'd sure like to hear from anyone who can find a journal article of a study or two that says I can down those darned 42g bullets in one sitting. It would be great to slam one twice a day and be done with it!

I like a teaspoon of instant coffee, or a teaspoon of cocoa powder in my vanilla shakes.< /p>

Brown bear, do you add milk to sf pudding and protien powder? I am being banded 8-28 and I am looking for something I hope I like to drink Ktravel

No milk as it makes it too thick.

I am going to have to try some of these other ideas. They sound good.

When I was on a liquid diet years ago, before the sugar-free syrups were available, I used the flavorings you find in the baking aisle. chocolate, strawberry, cherry, coconut, rum -- lots of flavors available. They add flavor without bulk. Then you'd probably want to add Splenda or some other noncalorie sweetener.

Cheers!

My nutritionist also said most people only absorb 20 - 25 grams of Protein at a time. However she also stated that many people only absorb half of the protein listed on the Protein Shakes at one time. It depends on the type of protein used in the shake or shot. I was a little shocked when I hear that statement. I would love to have a second opinion on it.

I use a travel mug! It blocks that baby formula smell that all Protein Drinks seem to have  If I don't have to smell it, most of the stuff that I have tried has been ok. I do know that powdered stuff HAS to sit in the fridge overnight for me. It gets rid of the grit! I really try to stay away from the stuff by drinking crystal light with a New Whey Protein Bullet (only use half at a time to limit protein) mixed in.

adding 5 strawberries and half a banana with the ice and packet of meal stuff...put the blender stuff @ two serving sizes...which means it cut my meal in half in CONTENT..right? half potent?

this time, the sips bring tears to my eyes lol.

i liiiiike strawberries and bananas. but i don't like this. lol.

and it smells better than it tastes TODAY. LOL. yesterday it smelled as bad as it tasted. haha

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
