What do you mean start pre-op diet NOW??

Recommended Posts

Gah!!!

Got all my labs and results back and met with the doc. I actually gained 5 pounds since my consult (Let's just call it a farewell to all the foods I love and won't have anymore). I also have a fatty liver.

The doc now wants me on a low-carb/no-carb diet with no dairy for the next two weeks, then I'll beon the pre-op liquid diet for two weeks before surgery.

OMG! I was soooooooo not prepared to go low-carb! I knew the liquid diet would be involved, but I thought I would be ok before that. I'm trying really hard not to freak out and I'm going to give myself a few days to gradually taper down my carbs. Wow has this been a wake-up call--the party is really over now!

Hey Girl,

Do you want to be diet buddies? I don't have to start my pre-op diet until 9/10 but I am starting it tomorrow. I am also doing the low carb thing. I know it is going to be hard but we can do this!!

I am in Vancouver, WA. Where in WA do you live?

I went to the Dr for my blood tests and I had gained! I went and got some Glucerna and started drinking it for Breakfast, better than Mc Donalds. Then I started adding another shake and eating less. I actually lost 5 pound. Of course Doc says EAT VEGGIES, yeah right, and I will but I am afraid, I have fatty liver too. In fact I had to go off my cholesteral meds becaus of it. Anyway, I feel 4 weeks to go, I need to get my liver to shrink a little. I only have to loose 10 pounds but my biggest fear - What if he gets in there and says - nope, liver is a mess, close her up.

Yes, I am a worry wort, but it is just so close now.

I feel your pain, Daisy and Debbie! My doc only wants a 2 week liquid diet, but he said he wouldn't do the surgery if my liver is too big, so I don't want to take any chances. I thought maybe I would start my low-carb/liquid diet a week early (I am getting banded 9/16). I was on medifast this summer trying to lose the weight and it required 5 Protein Shakes a day and also allowed low-carb foods and it was haaaaaard. I got the info packet from the hospital today and they only allow 3 Protein Drinks or other caloric beverages per day during the 2 week pre-op diet. I want this so much, I know I can do it, but I don't think I'll start the liquid phase until I have to. Good luck! Amber

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
