Couch to 5K for August...who's in?

Recommended Posts

I did Week 1 again today... at least the fifth time I did it. For some reason I had a harder time running today... but the weird thing is my heart rate went down quicker today (I always walk after the run until my rate falls below 65%). I am not sure that I will ever be ready to move to week 2. But, I guess that isn't the point. As long as I keep trying even if it takes me a year to get to Week 9 I will be okay with it. I am sure as I lose more weight it will get easier.... at least I hope.

Good luck everyone.

Kris

Wow 1000 you inspire me! Taking this on prior to surgery. You will do great with that kind of spunk and determination!!!!!

I did day 1 of week 2 last night and the extra 30 seconds did make a difference half way through the run. My legs started to get tired. I pushed through and did it though!

How is everyone else doing?

Okay...I've got some questions!!!

#1 - This is my week #3 on the program, but I'm thinking of repeating week #1 for the 3rd time. I'm just not sure I'm ready to move on. Is anyone else feeling this, or am I being a wuss?

#2 - Is anyone else feeling a numbness in their toes? I get a tingly sensation in my right foot, in the toes. This happens after about 10 - 15 minutes of walking/running.

#3 - Is anyone else using a treadmill? If so...what can I do to fix mine - it "skips" every now and then. If I weren't holding on to the handles, I'd go flying off. It's almost like it slides forward, and then heads back. Am I too fat for it? (It had a 250 wgt limit, I'm at 230 now...It's electric, not manual. It was used and is about 5-7 years old.)

#4 - Even though I am repeating the 1st week - again - I LOVE IT. How is everyone doing? Are you loving it...hating it? Have you revised the program at all?

Thanks all! :tt2:

It looks like I might have to drop out of the C25K challenge. I have RA and my knee has been getting progressively worse since I've started the challenge. I was told by a nurse, as a person with RA, I should NEVER jog so I'm going to walk instead of run and I will set up an appointment with a doctor to double check whether I can run or not. I really, really want to do this.

Well everybody...I've been away too long. My family has been really sick this last weekend and I couldn't do anything without coughing up a lung. So now I am starting all over again. Week 1/Day 1 for me.

Everybody is doing so good. Keep it up, we'll all get there, whether we finish the program or have to change it up (Dionnis) Just keep moving!!!

Still here too.. Got side-tracked this last week with all my drs appoints and driving. But I'm hoping to get back on track. Completed day2/week 1 today. I used a lower speed and was ableto complete all the run/walk cycles this time without pain. It felt really good to complete one round.

I decided to move on to week #2. It was easy the first 10 minutes (easy being, I didn't feel like dying) but then afterwards I had to push myself.

But, I pushed and I felt great! I really love this accountability.

Hey Everyone!

I am new to posting on this board, but have been lurking for quite a while. All I have to say is that y'all are awesome! I know that I am a little late joining the August c25k, but better late than never. I just started week 1 day 1 yesterday. It wasn't too bad. I kinda surprised myself. I know that I can reach the goal of running a 5K with all of your support. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi, Pharmchic! Nice to meet you.

I'm on my third week doing the program, but I've done week 1 twice and week 2 once - going on twice. I'm just a little nervous to push myself but I am suprised at how easy it's getting.

I have games on a bookshelf right in front my treadmill, and one is the new Monopoly "Here and Now". I stare at those words, thinking this is new ME...here and now.

I also have Cranium, and the tag line is "You won't believe what your friends can do." I skip the words and just read "You won't believe what you can do."

I know it sounds really korny, but it gets me through the running parts when start to feel tired. :-)

I just can't get through week #3...so I'm still on week #2, sorta mixing in the longer running times of week #3, but mostly sticking with the tempo of week 2.

 I'm getting there, but it seems kinda slow.

good news: I have lost a couple pounds from my plataeu! Finally!!! It's been months, really. This is what I needed.

I am on day 5 of week 2. I have been able to complete it and think I am ready to tackle week 3. My plan is to do each week as many times as I need to to feel really confident before I move on to the next week. I have not been able to be super consistent with the day on, day off, plan and I wonder if that really throws the schedule off alot.... Sometimes it's 4 days between runs...I guess I need to stop analyzing so much and just do it! If it works..it works ...if it doesn't I'll just keep on trying!:wink_smile:

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. I have a new boyfriend...so amazing that I'm dating again. Anyway, I am starting week 3 this week. Things are going good, but I still struggle with my shins hurting. Any suggestions guys?

Week two/day1 down. Didn't have too much trouble with the rutine, but did notice legs hurting more. Considering I'm still presurgery, I think i'm doing well. Will just keep going at my own pace.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
