TOM - Are you tighter?

Does your period cause your band to be tighter?

Well, unless I am swelling again, I am definitely tighter this morning. I just tried to have less than 1/2 cup of "soup" and couldn't finish it. I am now extremely full. This is really weird. Thankfully I went slow with it, or I would probably be sick right now. I wonder why that seems to affect the band?

I noticed mine after my first fill (thought I was delayed a couple of months because of a flipped port). Once I got some restriction - I then noticed the difference.

The reasons I think we are tighter during that TOM is from swelling. My body swells and bloats starting about a week before and that is when I notice the PBing and sliming. I figure my stomach swells and pushes on the tube from the port to the band making all the Fluid go into the band and then the swelling arround the band makes it tighter too.

I've been banded since April and I haven't had any probs during TOM until this month. The only difference I can think of is the fact that I'm at a fairly sweet spot with restriction. I gained 3 pounds of Water weight and had a hard time getting food down. I felt like I might pop for 3-4 days before TOM started. I weighed a couple of days after I finished and I lost the water weight plus some. That was a good thing, but I was certainly miserable for several days.

Does anyone know why it is that we are tighter during TOM? I have to practically be on a liquid diet for a few days. Just curious as to why?????

I was told it is a Water retention issue that causes that. Still waiting for Aunt Flo, so don't know yet.

I get TIGHT and it appears my fills are done at the same time I have my "friend" so I'm extra tight right now. The choclate cravings are CRAZY but I truck through with a choc. ship Protein bar... figured might as well get a little chocalte with soem protein..

I have a different TOM because of my IUD, so I have light cramping, very rare spotting (like one or two spots) only a couple of times a year, a very very tight band (I called the doctor's rep and she said she'd never had anyone ask about that). It sounds like a dream not to be able to eat, but it's actually frustrating and i usually end up resorting to ice cream on those days, as it's the only thing I have NEVER PBed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
