Can you still have soda's after being banded?

Recommended Posts

Crystal Light comes in a box and you get packets, 1 per 20 oz bottle..Energy drinks come in cans but not that you can get money for.

I was told absolutely NO carbonation under any circumstances. This includes BEER. Your pouch is small. Where do you think that effervescent gas is going to go? You risk stretching your pouch. I paid WAY to much money for my band, and worked to damn hard at losing weight to risk losing it over a stupid soda. I avoid it like the plague. Just pure clean Water for me!!!

Minute Maid Light comes in a can and it's not carbonated. I can only find the Lemonade version here but there are other yummy flavors in other parts of the country.

I avoid carbonation per my doctor's orders.

I was extremely worried about this, I'm a major diet coke addict, but I honestly haven't wanted it at all since my band 4 days ago. Could be because I'm feeling so full/bloated/gassy and the craving will come back after that passes, but I hope I'm over the hump and will be able to leave it behind me.

My brother says it doesn't bother his band if he sips it slowly and only has a small glass and not too soon after eating, I guess it affects people differently, some say it gave them a lot of gas pain.

Well to be honest he soda is a liquid which flows rights thru your band - you do feel some gassiness in your belly with your band but any liquid it runs like Water it only collects in your bladder - the soda while i have only had diet is ok with me

This may sound silliy but does cyrstal ligh con in a can? My amily and I collect alluimium cans to save money or trips and to recycle...I don't wanna stop that if I can. Or any other drinks that are not soda con in cans?

Take the money you would have spent on soda and put it in your vacay fund. It will add up much faster

Back on topic, I've been told no carbonated drinks for 6 months. I did have a 12oz. fountain Coke today though. I let it sit for a bit and took small sips.

My dentist likes that I'm not drinking all that soda!

Carbination is a huge no no after surgery. Once you have a new small pouch it can cause lots of discomfort, pain, possible stretching of the pouch and cause you to be more likely to get ulcers in your pouch...and for your pouch to erode...NOT the band the band is on the outside...Those who say they still drink pop I hope you quit you may cause problems down the road with your bands.

I have my 2 yr bandiversary coming up on the 1st of Sept and my dr told me that you can have sodas. He advised to pour them over ice or let sit for a few minutes after opening them first. I have my one regular dr. pepper every morning (I'm not a big coffee drinker) and I haven't had any problems.

my surgeon said soda is fine, but EVERY SURGEON IS DIFFERENT. ask YOUR surgeon, if you are wondering... just because one surgeon says yes or says no doesnt mean that YOUR surgeon will.

since i've been banded (almost 2 years ago) i've had maybe 4-5 sodas ... and it was at most half a can. i used to be a diet cherry cokaholic ... (2-3 20 oz bottles a day).. it just doesnt taste right anymore...

There seems to be a lot of varying reports on carbonated drinks. Me personally, I will have them now and again. On weekends I like to have a couple drinks. Gin and tonic, a beer here and there, but i dont make it a regular every day thing.

As far as soda goes, that stuff really is the devil. Straight liquid calories and sugar and no nutritional benefit. Diet soda is better i guess, but still, just drop the stuff entirely and you will be soooo much better off.

I just watched Supersize me the other day and the thing that struck me the most was how many calories are in a big gulp drink. Thats probably the worst thing about fast food even.

I'm still a bit worried about the carbonation. I was banded back in febuary and have had no problems, but i guess its always better not to risk it. Some things I think they tell you though just to get you to quit drinking soda.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
