Anybody else have to wait 3 months for their first fill??? My dr's policy is 3 months from surgery. Most other people I've talked to have had a fill after about a month. Really really tired of waiting!!!

:confused2:

I had to wait a month, most doctors I think go for 4-6 weeks.Never heard of three months, either way just be patient and the days will go by and that day will come for you.

The only doctor I know of that makes you wait 3 months is a doctor who started that policy now for those banded in Mexico. I think he has too many patients now and this way he is avoiding any complications from other doctors.

My fill doctor I picked has a 5 week minimum wait.

I had my surgery here in texas by the very dr making me wait. I understand why... he says that too many people are letting the band do all the work instead of changing their eating habits, but understanding and doing the waiting are two different things. Some days I feel so hungry I could eat forever and I just keep trying to tell myself it will get better after I have a fill.

for me it would have been 4 weeks, but I was leaving for an out of town trip, so it was just over 5 weeks...today as a matter of fact. I agree that you can use the time to change your habits, but you paid for the extra tool, you should be able to use it the way you want.

I know what you are going through. I had to wait almost 9 weeks. It was difficult. I just put it in my head that this was my healing time and tried to eat sensibly. The fills will come soon enough...I would find out how much your doc is going to put in the first fill. I have heard of some people getting really small fills for the first one and that would be a bummer after having such a long healing time. My doc put in 3.5 cc's, which he says is his standard for all of his patients. I have heard of some only getting 1 cc on the first, so I would check...hang in there...good things come to those who wait! :biggrin2:

My doc makes his patients wait about 6 weeks between fills. I felt no restriction whatsoever after my land band surgery. Even with my first fill (3 ccs in a 10cc band) I don't feel much restriction at all.

The nurse told me it takes about three fills to start finding your "sweet spot".

I know someone that was 6 months out and still had not had her first fill. She was dropping weight and the doctor said even if it's a pound a week he would not fill.

I know we are ready to get the show on the road but just remember there are stricter policies out there!

Good-Luck to you!

I'm trying really hard to keep my weight loss at 1 lb a week, but some weeks I haven't lost anything. I know my first fill will be here soon, but I want the weight off the day before surgery! And I keep thinking that every week without a fill is an extra pound I have to keep carrying around.

I'm actually kind of glad that there are other people out there that have to wait even though I know they must be just as frustrated as I am. I don't feel like I'm the only one with a really strict dr anymore. Yeah for me! Well, not really. But you know what I mean...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
