Getting Banded on Aug 26th

Recommended Posts

Hey August Bandsters!

I'm getting banded on August 26th by Dr. Steven Boyce at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, TN.

This whole process has gone in fits and spurts with long lags for simple things like getting my medical records sent to the surgeon. I've also had battle with my insurance company :crying: and ultimately prevailed:thumbup:.

I finally got everything approved on Monday and was able to schedule my banding for the 26th (thanks to a cancellation). I'm starting my pre-op diet on my own, since I won't go to the diet class until a week from today.

This is and exciting time!!

Bryan

Bryan,

I'm getting banded on the 28th and won't see the surgeon again until the 22nd. Nothing has been said about a pre-op diet, but I'm terrified of an "open" surgery, so I'm going to do a one-meal then liquids version starting next week.

I was lucky and insurance stuff went quickly, but there are sure alot of people who have to suffer terribly and jump through rings of fire before they finally get approval! Good job to you for hanging in there.

Hope to see you on the boards often. I've found lots of useful information, great support, and just plain fun folks who are sharing this exciting journey too!

Looks like its just T minus 8 days for both of us. I'm going to meet with the nutritionist at Dr. Boyce's office on Wednesday, so I'll get any additional info that I need then. I've been sticking to 2 Protein shakes per day with on regular light meal (low fat and carbs). I figure that it couldn't hurt, in the absence of any official instructions.

Welcome Donna! I was banded yesterday and am feeling quite well. I'm really excited for the last of our August buddies to join us in BandLand. It's been a real adventure getting to this point and I'm really looking forward to our successes!

i am feeling good today, I had a bout of nausea and vomiting on the second night that was rough. I am having trouble getting in all my Protein and Water. I am trying but I still have the gas pains, which are diminishing, but I feel like they get worse with drinking, but I am trying. Yesterday was my first Protein Shake and I did okay with that but very full for many hours. I am glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Hello everyone....I was banded on the 26th in Houston. The surgery went well. The only thing is that the doctor had to put on a bigger band because I have a natural larger stomach than most people. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I am on my second bottle of pain medicine. I can tell when I need to take some more. The third day I vomited twice, but nothing came up. That was painful. I have that sick to the stomach feeling often but it comes and goes and I try not to think about it. If I think about it, I will try to vomit.

My doctor had me on a pre op diet for 3 weeks. Since then, I have lost almost 29 pounds.

I have sharp pains that come and go. I am assuming those are the gas pains that everyone talks about. I'm not sure though since I've never been operated on. I too am having trouble getting all my Water and Protein shakes in. I have that constant "stuffed" feeling like you ate way too much at the chinese buffet.

Yesterday I had a creamscicle and didn't have any problems.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
