New kid on the block

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here. Here's some information about myself. I had the lapband procedure in November 2005. I weighed 226 on the day of the procedure and lost 55 pounds before I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October, 2006. Everything was going fine, had to have my fill taken out due to chemo and radiation nausea, but still gained 5 - 7 lbs due to radiation. To make a long story short, I have been cancer free for 1 year this past May. I started feeling very little restriction about 6 weeks ago and went to have a fill a couple of weeks ago. Still felt no restriction, went in today to check for a leak at port site and was told by my surgeon that had aneurisymal dilation of the band. Now the band will have to removed and replaced. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I paid $15,000 cash and I can't believe I have to go through the whole procedure again and I'm not sure of the cost. Any information on this I would greatly appreciate. I wanted this to be a lifelong journey, not just for 2 years. :crying:

I am so happy to hear that you are cancer free. My mom was diagnosed last summer...did a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. We found out last week that the cancer has returned and she now has a 5 inch mass.

I have only been banded since 12/12 so I don't really know how to help. If you do end up having to pay for the band again, I had my surgery with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver for $9975. This included everything...3 months of fills and then after that fills are only $15.

Good luck, I know that you will find all your answers here.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
